Abstract
A method for improving the deposit control performance of a fuel comprises combining an additive having a chemical structure comprising a 6-membered aromatic ring sharing two adjacent aromatic carbon atoms with a 6- or 7-membered saturated heterocyclic ring, the 6- or 7-membered saturated heterocyclic ring comprising a nitrogen atom directly bonded to one of the shared carbon atoms and an atom selected from oxygen or nitrogen directly bonded to the other shared carbon atom, the remaining atoms in the 6- or 7-membered heterocyclic ring being carbon with the fuel. The additive may also be used for controlling deposits in a system which comprises the fuel, such as in a spark-ignition internal combustion engine.
Claims20
A method for improving the deposit control performance of a fuel, the method comprising combining an additive with the fuel, wherein the additive has the formula:
- where:
- R1 is selected from hydrogen, alkyl groups and polymer-containing groups;
- R2, R3, R4, R5, R11 and R12 are each independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxy-alkyl, secondary amine and tertiary amine groups;
- R6, R7, R8 and R9 are each independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxy-alkyl, secondary amine and tertiary amine groups;
- X is selected from —O— or —NR10—, where R10 is selected from hydrogen and alkyl groups;
- and
- n is 0 or 1,
- or is a salt form thereof.
A method for controlling deposits in a system in which a fuel is used, said method comprising combining an additive with the fuel, wherein the additive has the formula:
- where:
- R1 is selected from hydrogen, alkyl groups and polymer-containing groups;
- R3, R4, R5, R11 and R12 are each independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxy-alkyl, secondary amine and tertiary amine groups;
- R6, R7, R8 and R9 are each independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxy-alkyl, secondary amine and tertiary amine groups;
- X is selected from —O— or —NR10—, where R10 is selected from hydrogen and alkyl groups;
- and
- n is 0 or 1,
- or is a salt form thereof.
A method for at least one of reducing oil degradation, improving drivability, improving fuel economy and improving durability in an engine in which a fuel is used, said method comprising combining an additive with the fuel, wherein the additive has the formula:
- where:
- R1 is selected from hydrogen, alkyl groups and polymer-containing groups;
- R2, R3, R4, R5, R11 and R12 are each independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxy-alkyl, secondary amine and tertiary amine groups;
- R6, R7, R8 and R9 are each independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxy-alkyl, secondary amine and tertiary amine groups;
- X is selected from —O— or —NR10—, where R10 is selected from hydrogen and alkyl groups;
- and
- n is 0 or 1,
- or is a salt form thereof.
A deposit control additive composition for a fuel, the composition comprising:
- an additive having the formula:
- where:
- R1 is selected from hydrogen, alkyl groups and polymer-containing groups;
- R2, R3, R4, R5, R11 and R12 are each independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxy-alkyl, secondary amine and tertiary amine groups;
