Abstract
A battery charging method and apparatus are provided. A setting value of charging control information is determined based on an overpotential value and a voltage value of a battery and is applied in the charging control information, and a voltage applied to charge the battery is controlled based on the charging control information that applies the setting value.
Claims14
A battery charging apparatus comprising:
- a controller configured to
- charge a battery using a charging voltage profile indicating a change in a charging voltage over time, wherein initial charging voltage of the charging voltage profile is determined based on an overpotential value and a voltage value of the battery,
- in response to a charging voltage being greater than or equal to a threshold voltage during charging of the battery, charge the battery at a constant voltage (CV), and
- terminate the charging at the CV, in response to a current of the battery being equal to a threshold current during charging of the battery at the CV,
- wherein the overpotential value is determined based on any one or any combination of the temperature and a degradation level of the battery within an overpotential range.
