Abstract
In non-limiting example embodiments, an electroluminescent device may include a lower structure including an emission area, and an encapsulation structure located on the lower structure. The lower structure may include a window. The window may be a light transmitting region or a notch. The light transmitting region may be spaced apart from the emission area and completely or partially surrounded by the emission area in a plan view. The notch may be formed at one side of the lower structure and recessed inward in a plan view such that one side of the emission area substantially conforms to the notch.
Claims17
An electroluminescent device, comprising:
- a lower structure comprising a light transmitting region, a non-transparent emission area surrounding the light transmitting region in a plan view and having a light transmittance lower than the light transmitting region, and an outer non-emission area surrounding the non-transparent emission area in a plan view;
- and
- an encapsulation structure located on the lower structure and having an inorganic lower surface, wherein
- the outer non-emission area has an outer inorganic surface portion surrounding the non-transparent emission area in a plan view and making a direct contact with the inorganic lower surface to form an inorganic-inorganic contact region surrounding the non-transparent emission area in a plan view,
- the lower structure comprises:
- an inorganic structure comprising a buffer layer including an inorganic material and a transistor on the buffer layer;
- a planarization layer located on the inorganic structure;
- a lower electrode located on the planarization layer;
- a pixel defining layer located on the planarization layer to cover a side portion of the lower electrode;
- an intermediate multilayer located on the lower electrode and having at least one functional layer;
- and
- an upper electrode located on the intermediate multilayer,
- a portion of the buffer layer corresponding the light transmitting region is present and permanently remains so that the buffer layer overlaps the light transmitting region,
- the at least one functional layer and/or the upper electrode is a common pattern layer, and a portion of the common pattern layer corresponding the light transmitting region is not present, and
- a portion of the upper electrode corresponding the light transmitting region is not present, the lower structure further comprises an organic passivation layer located on the upper electrode to make a direct contact with the upper electrode, the organic passivation layer having a conductive or semi-conductive property, the organic passivation layer being a common pattern layer, and a portion of the organic passivation layer corresponding the light transmitting region is present and permanently remains so that the organic passivation layer overlaps the light transmitting region.
An electroluminescent device, comprising:
- a lower structure comprising a light transmitting region, a non-transparent emission area surrounding the light transmitting region in a plan view and having a light transmittance lower than the light transmitting region, and an outer non-emission area surrounding the non-transparent emission area in a plan view;
