Abstract
Implant positioning devices for use with and assisting in positioning orthopaedic fixation devices (such as bone plates, etc.). An implant positioning device may include a body that has a fastener guide with slits in a first end of the fastener guide that form a retaining arm proximal to the first end of the fastener guide. The implant positioning device may also be coupled to a bone plate by a retaining beam positioned within the implant positioning device to facilitate ease of alignment and insertion of the fastener into a fastener apertures of the bone plate.
Claims22
An implant positioning device for an orthopaedic fixation device, comprising:
- a body having a first end and a second end opposite of the first end;
- a fastener guide coupled to the body and configured to releasably hold a fastener in the implant positioning device, the fastener guide including a retaining arm;
- a first through-bore formed in the body and extending along a first longitudinal axis from the first end of the body to the second end of the body;
- and
- a single retaining beam disposed in the first through-bore, the single retaining beam including a proximal end and a distal end, the single retaining beam disposed in the first through-bore such that the distal end of the single retaining beam protrudes from the second end of the body for snapping onto a plate for removably coupling the implant positioning device to the plate, wherein, when snapping the distal end of the single retaining beam onto the plate, the entirety of the distal end of the single retaining beam moves in a uniform direction relative to the first longitudinal axis of the first through-bore.
An implant positioning device for an orthopaedic fixation device, comprising:
- a body having a top side and a bottom side;
- a first fastener guide coupled to the body and configured to releasably hold a fastener in the implant positioning device;
- a first through-bore formed in the body and extending along a first longitudinal axis from the top side of the body to the bottom side of the body;
- and
- a single retaining beam positioned in the first through-bore, the single retaining beam including a proximal end and a distal end, the single retaining beam positioned in the first through-bore such that the distal end of the single retaining beam protrudes from the bottom side of the bod for snapping onto a plate for removably coupling the implant positioning device to the plate, wherein, when snapping the distal end of the single retaining beam onto the plate, the entirety of the distal end of the single retaining beam moves in a uniform direction relative to the first longitudinal axis of the first through-bore.
A plating system, comprising:
- a plate adapted to be coupled to a bone or other body part, the plate including a first fastener aperture and a second fastener aperture;
- and
- an implant positioning device, including:
- a body having a top side and a bottom side;
- a first fastener guide and a second fastener guide coupled to the body and configured to respectively receive a first fastener and a second fastener, wherein a first length of the first fastener guide is smaller than a second length of the second fastener guide;
- a first through-bore formed in the body and extending along a first longitudinal axis from the top side of the body to the bottom side of the body;
- and
- a single retaining beam positioned in the first through-bore, the single retaining beam including a proximal end and a distal end, the single retaining beam positioned in the first through-bore such that the distal end of the single retaining beam protrudes from the bottom side of the bod for snapping onto the plate for removably coupling the implant positioning device to the plate with the first fastener guide and the second fastener guide in alignment with the respective first fastener aperture and second fastener aperture, wherein, when snapping the distal end of the single retaining beam onto the plate, the entirety of the distal end of the single retaining beam moves in a uniform direction relative to the first longitudinal axis of the first through-bore.
A plating system, comprising:
- a plate adapted to be coupled to a bone or other body part, wherein the plate is anatomically contoured to the bone or other body part, the plate including a fastener aperture;
- and
- an implant positioning device, including:
- a body having a top side and a bottom side;
- a first through-bore formed in the body and extending along a first longitudinal axis from the top side of the body to the bottom side of the body;
- a fastener guide coupled to the body and configured to respectively receive a fastener;
- and
- a single retaining beam positioned in the first through-bore, the single retaining beam including a proximal end and a distal end, the single retaining beam positioned in the first through-bore such that the distal end of the single retaining beam protrudes from the bottom side of the body for snapping onto the plate for removably coupling the implant positioning device to the plate with the fastener guide in alignment with the fastener aperture, wherein, when snapping the distal end of the single retaining beam onto the plate, the entirety of the distal end of the single retaining beam moves in a uniform direction relative to the first longitudinal axis of the first through-bore,
- wherein a fastener longitudinal axis extending through to the fastener guide is angled with respect to the first longitudinal axis.
