Abstract
A hand vacuum cleaner having an upstream physical filtration chamber, an air treatment member downstream of and rearward of the upstream physical filtration chamber, a pre-motor filter downstream of and rearward of the air treatment member and a suction motor downstream of and rearward of the pre-motor filter, wherein the dirty air inlet is provided at a front end of the hand vacuum cleaner.
Claims18
A hand vacuum cleaner having an upper end and a lower end, the hand vacuum cleaner comprising:
- (a) an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet with a non-cyclonic chamber, an air treatment member, a pre-motor filter and a suction motor provided in the air flow path, the dirty air inlet is provided at a front end of the hand vacuum cleaner, an inlet passage extends rearwardly from the dirty air inlet, the inlet passage has an inlet passage axis which extends in a forward/rearward direction;
- (b) the non-cyclonic chamber having an air inlet downstream from the dirty air inlet and an air outlet, the air outlet comprising a screen that is in the form of a longitudinally extending rigid basket, the basket having a central longitudinal axis that extends in the forward/rearward direction;
- (c) the air treatment member comprising an air treatment chamber that is positioned rearward of the non-cyclonic chamber, the air treatment chamber has a front end, a rear end and a central longitudinal axis extending between the front and rear ends of the air treatment chamber;
- (d) the pre-motor filter is positioned rearward of the air treatment member;
- and,
- (e) the suction motor is positioned rearward of the pre-motor filter, the suction motor has a suction motor axis of rotation,
- wherein the screen has a front end, a rear end and a sidewall extending between the front and rear ends, a portion of the sidewall is porous and the front end of the screen is open, and
- wherein the non-cyclonic chamber has an openable door, the openable door is openable while the screen remains in the non-cyclonic chamber and, when the door is open, the non-cyclonic chamber has an open end and the screen is removable through the open end in the absence of deforming the screen, and
- wherein a rear end of the basket contacts the air treatment member.
A hand vacuum cleaner having an upper end and a lower end, the hand vacuum cleaner comprising:
- (a) an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet with a non-cyclonic chamber, a pre-motor filter and a suction motor provided in the air flow path, the dirty air inlet is provided at a front end of the hand vacuum cleaner;
- (b) the non-cyclonic chamber having an air inlet downstream from the dirty air inlet and an air outlet, the air outlet comprising a rigid physical filtration member, the physical filtration member comprising at least one of a metal screen and a plastic shroud, the physical filtration member has a front end, a rear end, a central longitudinal axis extending in a forward/rearward direction between the front and rear ends of the physical filtration member and a sidewall extending between the front and rear ends, a portion of the rear end and a portion of the sidewall is porous and the front end of the physical filtration member is open, the non-cyclonic chamber has an openable door, the openable door is openable while the physical filtration member remains in the non-cyclonic chamber and, when the door is open, the non-cyclonic chamber has an open end and the physical filtration member is removable through the open end in the absence of deforming the physical filtration member;
- (c) an air treatment member comprising a multi-inlet cyclone that is positioned rearward of the non-cyclonic chamber, the multi-inlet cyclone has a front end, a rear end, a central longitudinal axis extending between the front and rear ends of the multi-inlet cyclone, and a plurality of cyclone inlets located at the rear end of the multi-inlet cyclone;
- (d) the pre-motor filter is positioned rearward of the air treatment member;
- and,
- (e) the suction motor is positioned rearward of the pre-motor filter, the suction motor has a suction motor axis of rotation.
A hand vacuum cleaner having an upper end and a lower end, the hand vacuum cleaner comprising:
- (a) an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet with a non-cyclonic chamber, a cyclone downstream from the non-cyclonic chamber, a pre-motor filter and a suction motor provided in the air flow path, the dirty air inlet is provided at a front end of the hand vacuum cleaner;
- (b) the non-cyclonic chamber having an air inlet downstream from the dirty air inlet and an air outlet, the air outlet comprising a rigid physical filtration member, the physical filtration member has a front end, a rear end, a central longitudinal axis extending in a forward/rearward direction between the front and rear ends of the physical filtration member and a sidewall extending between the front and rear ends, a portion of the rear end and a portion of the sidewall is porous and the front end of the physical filtration member is open, the non-cyclonic chamber has an openable door, the openable door is openable while the physical filtration member remains in the non-cyclonic chamber and, when the door is open, the non-cyclonic chamber has an open end and the physical filtration member is removable through the open end in the absence of deforming the physical filtration member;
- (c) the cyclone has an axis of rotation that extends in the forward/rearward direction and the central longitudinal axis of the physical filtration member extends through the cyclone wherein the hand vacuum cleaner further comprises a dirt collection chamber that is external to the cyclone and the dirt collection chamber is positioned beneath the cyclone and the non-cyclonic chamber when the hand vacuum cleaner is oriented with the upper end of the hand vacuum cleaner above the lower end of the hand vacuum cleaner;
