Coated urinary catheter or ureteral stent and method

A coated urinary catheter or urinary stent device, comprising:

• a urinary catheter or stent which, in a deployed position, comprises a protective surface area and a protected surface area;
• and
• a coating upon at least a portion of the protective surface area comprising a lubricant and a pH buffering material,
• wherein, upon application of negative pressure to the catheter or stent, the protective surface area inhibits tissue of a urinary tract from occluding one or more protected drainage holes, ports or perforations of the catheter or stent.

A method of manufacture of a coated urinary catheter or urinary stent device, the method comprising:

• providing a urinary catheter or urinary stent device which, in a deployed position, comprises a retention portion comprising a protective surface area and a protected surface area, wherein the protected surface area comprises one or more protected drainage holes, ports or perforations, and wherein, upon application of negative pressure to the catheter or stent, the protective surface area inhibits tissue of a urinary tract from occluding the one or more protected drainage holes, ports or perforations of the catheter or stent;
• applying at least one sublayer of a coating to at least a portion of a catheter or stent, the at least one sublayer comprising at least one antimicrobial material and at least one pH buffering material;
• and
• applying at least one outermost layer of the coating upon at least a portion of the at least one sublayer, the at least one outermost layer comprising a lubricant comprising one or more of polyethylene glycol, polyvinylpyrrolidone, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyvinyl alcohol, polyacrylamide, polymethacrylate, copolymers thereof, silicone(s), or mixtures thereof.
