GNB coordinated device to device communication

An apparatus for wireless communications at a base station, comprising:

• a processor adapted to determine that a direct link between a first User Equipment (UE) and a second UE should be established;
• a transmitter adapted to transmit information to the first UE and the second UE to enable a directional beam search procedure between the first UE and the second UE;
• and
• a receiver adapted to receive a message from the first UE or the second UE that indicates a result of the directional beam search procedure, wherein the result comprises information associated with at least one of one or more directional transmit or receive beams of the first UE or the second UE used in the directional beam search procedure.

An apparatus for wireless communications at a base station, comprising:

• means for determining that a direct link between a first User Equipment (UE) and a second UE should be established;
• means for transmitting information to the first UE and the second UE to enable a directional beam search procedure between the first UE and the second UE;
• and
• means for receiving a message from the first UE or the second UE that indicates a result of the directional beam search procedure, wherein the result comprises information associated with at least one of one or more directional transmit or receive beams of the first UE or the second UE used in the directional beam search procedure.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing code for wireless communications at a base station, the code comprising instructions executable by a processor to:

• determine that a direct link between a first User Equipment (UE) and a second UE should be established;
• transmit information to the first UE and the second UE to enable a directional beam search procedure between the first UE and the second UE;
• and
• receive a message from the first UE or the second UE that indicates a result of the directional beam search procedure, wherein the result comprises information associated with at least one of one or more directional transmit or receive beams of the first UE or the second UE used in the directional beam search procedure.
