Abstract
A method of clearing of registers and logic designs with AND and OR logics to propagate the zero values provided to write enable signal buses upon the execution of clear instruction of more than one registers, allowing more than one architecturally visible registers to be cleared with one signal instruction regardless of the values of data buses.
Claims21
A method of clearing of registers, the method comprising:
- receiving a register clear instruction by a processor, wherein the processor includes:
- a plurality of registers that includes a first architecturally visible register and a second architecturally visible register;
- and
- a set of functional units that each include, for each register of the plurality of registers, a respective data bus and a respective write enable signal bus;
- executing the register clear instruction on the processor by:
- causing each functional unit of the set of functional units to provide a zero value via the respective write enable signal bus associated with the first architecturally visible register and the respective write enable signal bus associated with the second architecturally visible register;
- and
- for each of the first architecturally visible register and the second architecturally visible register:
- for each functional unit of the set of functional units, providing the zero value of the respective write enable signal bus and a value of the respective data bus as inputs to a respective AND logic;
- and
- causing a respective store value to be stored in the respective architecturally visible register by providing a respective data signal based on an output of the respective AND logic and a respective write enable signal based on each of the respective write enable signal buses of the set of functional units.

A method of clearing of registers, the method comprising:
- executing a register clear instruction on a processor, wherein the processor includes:
- a plurality of registers;
- and
- a set of functional units that each include, for each register of the plurality of registers, a respective data bus and a respective write enable signal bus;
- based on the register clear instruction, causing each functional unit of the set of functional units to providing a zero value to each of the plurality of registers via the respective write enable signal bus, wherein the register clear instruction includes a respective address of each of the plurality of registers;
- and
- for each of the plurality of registers:
- for each functional unit of the set of functional units, providing the zero value of the respective write enable signal bus and a value of the respective data bus as inputs to a respective AND logic;
- and
- causing a respective store value to be stored in the respective register by providing a respective data signal based on the output of the respective AND logic and a respective write enable signal based on each of the respective write enable signal busses of the set of functional units.
