Abstract
The present invention relates to an erosion control apparatus and methods of using and installing the apparatus. The apparatus is constructed to prevent erosion of soil during typical weather or tidal conditions and adverse weather events. The apparatus can include a plurality of anchored rolls and soil lifts operative to stabilize the shoreline.
Claims56
A method of installing an erosion control apparatus comprising:
- arranging a plurality of fiber rolls relative to a shoreline;
- connecting a plurality of soil lifts to the fiber rolls, each soil lift comprising fibrous material surrounding a fill material, wherein each soil lift is connected to at least one fiber roll to form a layered assembly;
- inserting a plurality of anchors such that each anchor is coupled to at least one of the fiber rolls, the anchors having an anchor point surface area inserted at a depth, wherein each of the anchors passes through at least a portion of the layered assembly, and wherein at least one of the fiber rolls is positioned over at least one of the anchors, and
- connecting the plurality of fiber rolls together with a harness cable network to form a fiber roll array, the harness cable network configured to couple the plurality of anchors to one or more of the plurality of fiber rolls such that a holding force is applied to the fiber roll array wherein the harness cable network extends around a mesh that at least partially surrounds one fiber roll, the mesh extending around the fill material of at least one soil lift of the plurality of soil lifts.

A method of installing an erosion control apparatus comprising:
- arranging a first fiber roll relative to a shoreline;
- connecting a first soil lift to the first fiber roll, the first soil lift comprising a fibrous layer that contains a fill material within said soil lift, each soil lift being compacted with a compactor;
- inserting a plurality of anchors, each anchor coupled to the first fiber roll, the anchors having an anchor point surface area inserted at a depth, wherein each anchor passes through the first soil lift and the fibrous layer that contains the first soil lift to define an anchored first layer;
- repeating the above steps to form a plurality of anchored layers, at least one fiber roll being connected to one of the soil lifts that are enclosed within a mesh;
- and
- connecting the fiber rolls together with a harness cable network to form a fiber roll array, the harness cable network configured to couple the plurality of anchors to one or more of the plurality of fiber rolls such that a holding force is applied to the fiber roll array wherein the harness cable network extends around a mesh that at least partially surrounds one fiber roll, the mesh extending around the fill material of at least one soil lift of the plurality of soil lifts.
3 more elements
A method of installing an erosion control apparatus comprising:
- arranging a plurality of fiber rolls relative to a shoreline arranged at a slope angle;
- connecting a plurality of soil lifts to the fiber rolls, the soil lifts each comprising a fibrous material containing a fill material, each soil lift being connected to at least one fiber roll;
- inserting a plurality of anchors along each of the fiber rolls, the anchors inserted with a hydraulic hammer to a depth through the apparatus, each anchor inserted at an angle relative to the slope angle, wherein each anchor passes through at least one soil lift to form a layered soil lift structure;
- and
- connecting the plurality of fiber rolls and the plurality of soil lifts together with a harness cable network to form a fiber roll array, the harness cable network configured to couple the plurality of anchors to one or more of the plurality of fiber rolls such that a holding force is applied to the fiber roll array wherein the harness cable network extends around a mesh that at least partially surrounds one fiber roll, the mesh extending around the fill material of at least one soil lift of the plurality of soil lifts.
