Abstract
The invention provides a non-invasive method for treatment of arrhythmia. In a first aspect, a method for treatment of atrial fibrillation in a heart of a patient comprises directing radiation from outside the patient toward one or more target treatment regions of the heart so as to inhibit the atrial fibrillation. The radiation may induce isolation of a pulmonary vein.
Claims20
A noninvasive system for imaging and treating cardiac arrhythmia in a subject, the system comprising:
- a scanning component, wherein the scanning component generates an image of one or more target regions of the heart;
- a treatment planning workstation, wherein the treatment planning workstation is configured to prescribe a treatment;
- a source of particle beam radiation or x-ray radiation;
- and
- a robotic system comprising a computer processor that is configured to direct radiation from outside the patient toward the one or more target regions of the heart.
2 more elements
A method of treating cardiac arrhythmia comprising:
- determining a lesion pattern to treat the cardiac arrhythmia;
- determining one or more target treatment regions in the heart based on the lesion pattern;
- and
- directing a radiation-based non-invasive therapy to the one or more target treatment regions in the heart.
