Allocating streaming content on a hybrid network

A communication device, comprising:

• a processor configured to initiate operations including:
• searching for streaming content that is broadcast via broadcast signals over a broadcast network as the communications device is receiving the streaming content over a cellular network from a cellular network provider;
• responsive to identifying, based on the searching, a within-range broadcast source broadcasting the streaming content via broadcast signals, causing the communications device to receive the streaming content via the broadcast signals over the broadcast network and cease receiving the streaming content via the cellular network;
• notifying the cellular network provider that the communications device has ceased receiving the streaming content;
• and
• receiving, responsive to the notifying, personalized content over the cellular network from the cellular network provider.

A computer program product comprising

• one or more computer readable storage media having program instructions embodied therewith, the program instructions executable by a processor of a communications device to cause the processor to initiate operations comprising:
• searching for streaming content that is broadcast via broadcast signals over a broadcast network as the communications device is receiving the streaming content over a cellular network from a cellular network provider;
• responsive to identifying, based on the searching, a within-range broadcast source broadcasting the streaming content via broadcast signals, causing the communications device to receive the streaming content via the broadcast signals over the broadcast network and cease receiving the streaming content via the cellular network;
• notifying the cellular network provider that the communications device has ceased receiving the streaming content;
• and
• receiving, responsive to the notifying, personalized content over the cellular network from the cellular network provider.
