Image forming apparatus improved in setting process for recording medium, method of controlling the same, and storage medium

A method of controlling an image forming apparatus including a printer, a sheet feeding cassette configured to store a sheet, a sensor that detects whether the sheet feeding cassette is in a predetermined position for feeding the sheet, a conveying device configured to convey the sheet stored in the sheet feeding cassette, a sheet type identification sensor, for detecting the type of the sheet corresponding to a thickness of the sheet disposed in a conveying path of the sheet, a display device, and a storage device, the method comprising the steps of:

• storing, in the storage device, a type of the sheet corresponding to the thickness of the sheet in the sheet feeding cassette in association with the sheet feeding cassette;
• conveying, with the conveying device, the sheet stored in the sheet feeding cassette when the sensor detects that the sheet feeding cassette is in the predetermined position for feeding the sheet;
• identifying the type of the sheet corresponding to the thickness of the sheet based on information provided from the sheet type identification sensor;
• controlling the display device to display a screen showing the type of the sheet corresponding to the thickness of the sheet identified in the identifying step to prompt a user to whether or not set the type of the sheet corresponding to the thickness of the sheet displayed on the screen;
• discharging the conveyed sheet whose type is identified without being printed by the printer;
• and
• controlling the storage device, in a case where the type of the sheet corresponding to the thickness of the sheet displayed on the screen is set by the user, to store the type of the sheet corresponding to the thickness of the sheet identified in the identifying step in association with information of the sheet feeding cassette.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a computer-executable control program executable by a computer to execute a method of controlling an image forming apparatus including a printer, a sheet feeding cassette configured to store a sheet, a sensor that detects whether the sheet feeding cassette is in a predetermined position for feeding the sheet, a conveying device configured to convey the sheet stored in the sheet feeding cassette, a sheet type identification sensor, for detecting the type of the sheet corresponding to a thickness of the sheet disposed in a conveying path of the sheet, a display device, and a storage device, the method comprising the steps of:

• storing, in the storage device, a type of the sheet corresponding to the thickness of the sheet in the sheet feeding cassette in association with the sheet feeding cassette;
• conveying, with the conveying device, the sheet stored in the sheet feeding cassette when the sensor detects that the sheet feeding cassette is in the predetermined position for feeding the sheet;
• identifying the type of the sheet corresponding to the thickness of the sheet based on information provided from the sheet type identification sensor;
• controlling the display device to display a screen showing the type of the sheet corresponding to the thickness of the sheet identified in the identifying step to prompt a user to whether or not set the type of the sheet corresponding to the thickness of the sheet displayed on the screen;
• discharging the conveyed sheet whose type is identified without being printed by the printer;
• and
• controlling the storage device, in a case where the type of the sheet corresponding to a thickness of the sheet displayed on the screen is set by the user, to store the type of the sheet corresponding to the thickness of the sheet identified in the identifying step in association with information of the sheet feeding cassette.
