Abstract
Technologies for efficiently booting sleds in a disaggregated architecture include a sled. The sled includes a network interface controller, a set of processors, and firmware that includes an operating system. Additionally, the sled includes circuitry to perform, with multiple processors in the set of processors, a boot process. The circuitry is also to initialize the operating system present in the firmware, receive, with the network interface controller and from another sled, an assignment of a workload, and execute the assigned workload with the operating system.
Claims24
A sled comprising:
- a network interface controller;
- a set of processors;
- firmware that includes an operating system;
- and
- circuitry to (i) perform, with multiple processors in the set of processors, a boot process that includes to perform a first subset of boot operations with a first processor in the set of processors, and to perform a second subset of boot operations with a second processor in the set of processors, the second subset of boot operations to include the second processor to copy an operating system boot sector into a memory of the sled, (ii) initialize the operating system present in the firmware, (iii) receive, with the network interface controller and from another sled, an assignment of a workload, and (iv) execute the assigned workload with the operating system.
One or more non-transitory machine-readable storage media comprising a plurality of instructions stored thereon that, in response to being executed, cause a sled to:
- perform, with multiple processors in a set of processors of the sled, a boot process that includes to perform a first subset of boot operations with a first processor in the set of processors, and to perform a second subset of boot operations with a second processor in the set of processors, the second subset of boot operations to include the second processor to copy an operating system boot sector into a memory of the sled;
- initialize an operating system present in a firmware of the sled;
- receive, with a network interface controller of the sled, and from another sled, an assignment of a workload;
- and
- execute the assigned workload with the operating system.
A sled comprising:
- means for performing, with multiple processors in a set of processors of the sled, a boot process that includes to perform a first subset of boot operations with a first processor in the set of processors, and to perform a second subset of boot operations with a second processor in the set of processors, the second subset of boot operations to include the second processor to copy an operating system boot sector into a memory of the sled;
- circuitry for initializing an operating system present in a firmware of the sled;
- circuitry for receiving, with a network interface controller of the sled, and from another sled, an assignment of a workload;
- and
- circuitry for executing the assigned workload with the operating system.
A method comprising:
- performing, with multiple processors in a set of processors of a sled, a boot process that includes to perform a first subset of boot operations with a first processor in the set of processors, and to perform a second subset of boot operations with a second processor in the set of processors, the second subset of boot operations to include the second processor to copy an operating system boot sector into a memory of the sled;
- initializing, by the sled, an operating system present in a firmware of the sled;
- receiving, with a network interface controller of the sled, and from another sled, an assignment of a workload;
- and
- executing, by the sled, the assigned workload with the operating system.
