Abstract
A method, device and/or system for generating arbitrary waveforms of a desired shape that can be used for generating a stimulation pulse for medical purposes such as for spinal cord stimulation therapy, including the option of using such arbitrary waveforms for charge balancing purposes.
Claims20
An apparatus for generating electrical stimulation pulses as a part of an electrical stimulation therapy, the apparatus comprising:
- a waveform generating circuit configured to output, at each time period of a plurality of periods in time, a plurality of waveform components that each have a waveform shape and digital values representing an amplitude of the waveform shape;
- a first multiplexor coupled to the waveform generating circuit, wherein the first multiplexor is configured to select, at each time period, at least one of the waveform components;
- a second multiplexor coupled to an output of the first multiplexor, wherein the second multiplexor is configured to set an output of the waveform generating circuit to zero at a beginning or an end of each time period;
- and
- a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) coupled to an output of the second multiplexor, wherein the DAC is configured to convert, at each time period, the selected at least one of the waveform components into an analog signal.
A method of generating electrical stimulation pulses as a part of an electrical stimulation therapy, the method comprising:
- generating, via a waveform generating circuit, a plurality of waveform components at each time period of a plurality of periods in time, wherein the waveform components each have a waveform shape and digital values representing an amplitude of the waveform shape;
- selecting, via a first multiplexor coupled to the waveform generating circuit, at least one of the waveform components at each time period;
- zeroing, via a second multiplexor coupled to the first multiplexor, an output of the waveform generating circuit at a beginning or an end of each time period;
- and
- converting, via a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) coupled to the second multiplexor, the selected at least one of the waveform components into an analog signal at each time period.
An apparatus for generating electrical stimulation pulses as a part of an electrical stimulation therapy, the apparatus comprising:
- waveform generating means for outputting, at each time period of a plurality of periods in time, a plurality of waveform components that each have a waveform shape and digital values representing an amplitude of the waveform shape;
- first multiplexor means for selecting, at each time period, at least one of the waveform components;
- second multiplexor means for setting an output of the waveform generating means to zero at a beginning or an end of each time period;
- and
- digital-to-analog converter (DAC) means for converting, at each time period, the selected at least one of the waveform components into an analog signal.
