Modifying characteristics of a medical device utilizing a mobile device

A computer-implemented method in a clinical computing environment comprising:

• providing, via a first computing process, a notification at a mobile device, the notification being associated with a medical device;
• receiving, via a second computing process, a confirmation of the notification from the clinician, the confirmation being communicated to an electronic medical record (EMR) associated with a patient being treated by the medical device;
• communicating, via a third computing process, the notification from the EMR to the medical device;
• and
• automatically modifying, via a fourth computing process, characteristics of a treatment provided by the medical device in accordance with the notification;
• wherein each computing process is performed by one or more computing devices.

A system comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• one or more computer storage media storing instructions that, when used by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
• receive a notification from a medical device, the notification being recently displayed on a display of the medical device, the medical device executing at least one previously input order;
• communicate the notification to a mobile device associated with a clinician, a representation of the notification configured for display on a display of the mobile device;
• receive an ordered course of action from the clinician via the mobile device, the ordered course of action comprising a modification to at least one characteristic of the medical device's execution of the previously input order;
• communicate the ordered course of action to the medical device;
• and
• automatically modify the at least one characteristic of the medical device's execution of the previously input order in accordance with the ordered course of action.
