Structured data in a business networking feed

A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-readable program code to be executed by one or more processors when retrieved from the non-transitory computer-readable medium, the program code including instructions configurable to cause:

• processing one or more requests from a first user of a social networking system to share a file with at least a first one of a plurality of groups of users of the social networking system, the one or more requests capable of indicating a selection of the first group by the first user;
• updating, responsive to processing the one or more requests, the database system to cause the file to be editable by one or more of the users who are members of the first group;
• providing data to a device of a second user of the social networking system, the second user being a member of the first group, the device being operable to process the data to display, in a user interface on a display of the device, a first feed comprising:
• a plurality of messages, and a representation of the file, the representation of the file being displayed in association with a selection operable to cause the file to be displayed in an editable format on the display of the device of the second user, the user interface capable of receiving user commentary from users regarding the file, the user commentary being shareable in the first feed as a message;
• obtaining, via the displayed first feed, an edit to the file as displayed in the editable format, the edit submitted by the second user;
• processing the edit to the file to provide an updated file, the processing of the edit comprising identifying the edit as being a first one of a plurality of types of edits to structured data of the file, the first type designated in a database as being shareable in the first feed, a second one of the plurality of types of edits to structured data of the file designated in the database as being not shareable in the first feed;
• and
• updating, responsive to identifying the edit as being the first type, the first feed such that the updated file is accessible to online users of the first group in respective feeds of the online users of the first group.

A method comprising:

• processing one or more requests from a first user of a social networking system to share a file with at least a first one of a plurality of groups of users of the social networking system, the one or more requests capable of indicating a selection of the first group by the first user;
• updating, responsive to processing the one or more requests, the database system to cause the file to be editable by one or more of the users who are members of the first group;
• providing data to a device of a second user of the social networking system, the second user being a member of the first group, the device being operable to process the data to display, in a user interface on a display of the device, a first feed comprising:
• a plurality of messages, and a representation of the file, the representation of the file being displayed in association with a selection operable to cause the file to be displayed in an editable format on the display of the device of the second user, the user interface capable of receiving user commentary from users regarding the file, the user commentary being shareable in the first feed as a message;
• obtaining, via the displayed first feed, an edit to the file as displayed in the editable format, the edit submitted by the second user;
• processing the edit to the file to provide an updated file, the processing of the edit comprising identifying the edit as being a first one of a plurality of types of edits to structured data of the file, the first type designated in a database as being shareable in the first feed, a second one of the plurality of types of edits to structured data of the file designated in the database as being not shareable in the first feed;
• and
• updating, responsive to identifying the edit as being the first type, the first feed such that the updated file is accessible to online users of the first group in respective feeds of the online users of the first group.
