Abstract

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media, for reducing transitions between active and idle states are provided. In some embodiments, transition data indicating transitions between an active state and an idle state associated with a mobile device is received. Thereafter, an idle state pattern that indicates a pattern of an idle state associated with the mobile device is identified. Based on the idle state pattern, an inactivity timer update corresponding with the idle state pattern is provided to at least one communication tower. The inactivity timer update provides a time duration or time duration adjustment to be applied by the at least one communication tower for use in detecting a transition from an active state to an idle state.

Dependent claims

One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that, when executed, perform a method, the method comprising:

when a communication tower receives data from a user device, starting a timer having a defined time duration;
building a path for the user device based on receiving the data from the user device;
when the defined time duration of the timer expires without the communication tower subsequently receiving additional data from the user device, determining that the user device is transitioning from active to idle;
tearing down the path based on determining that the user device is transitioning to from active to idle;
communicating a transition indicator to a control node to indicate that the user device is transitioning from active to idle;
identifying, at the control node, a new time duration based on the transition indicator, wherein the new time duration is not the same as the defined time duration of the timer;
updating the timer subsequent to tearing down the path, wherein updating comprises changing the timer from the defined time duration to the new time duration.

A method comprising:

obtaining a plurality of transition indicators for a user device, each of the plurality of transition indicators corresponding to a transition of the a user device between idle and active;
based on the plurality of transition indicators, identifying a transition pattern of the user device transitioning between idle and active, wherein the transition pattern specifies a reoccurring time duration during which the user device is idle;
identifying at least one of a device type or a device parameter of the user device that is causing the transition pattern of the user device;
and
setting a timer based on the reoccurring time duration of the transition pattern of the user device, wherein a communication tower uses the timer to determine when to tear down paths to the user device.
