Abstract
Disclosed are compositions and methods for their use for reducing tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and/or vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) production in skin cells by topically applying to skin in need thereof, a composition comprising an effective amount of Opuntia ficus-indica tuna, Opuntia ficus-indica nopales, or both, or extracts thereof, to reduce TNF-α or VEGF production in skin cells.

A method of treating inflamed skin by reducing tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) or vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) production in skin cells, the method comprising topically applying to inflamed skin a composition comprising an aqueous extract of Opuntia ficus-indica tuna, Opuntia ficus-indica nopales, or a combination thereof, to reduce TNF-α or VEGF production in skin cells to treat the inflamed skin, wherein the composition is applied to the periorbital area of a person's face.
A method of treating inflamed skin by reducing tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) or vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) production in skin cells, the method comprising topically applying to inflamed skin a composition comprising an aqueous extract of Opuntia ficus-indica tuna, Opuntia ficus-indica nopales, or a combination thereof, to reduce TNF-α or VEGF production in skin cells to treat the inflamed skin, wherein the composition comprises further comprises:
- 60 to 70 wt. % water
- butylene glycol;
- cyclopentasiloxane;
- hydrogenated polydecene;
- dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone cross polymer;
- capryl glycol;
- 1,2-hexanediol;
- hydroxyethyl acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer;
- polysorbate 20;
- squalane;
- and
- panthenol.
A method of treating inflamed skin by reducing tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) or vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) production in skin cells, the method comprising topically applying to inflamed skin a composition comprising an aqueous extract of Opuntia ficus-indica tuna, Opuntia ficus-indica nopales, or a combination thereof, to reduce TNF-α or VEGF production in skin cells to treat the inflamed skin, wherein the composition further comprises:
- water;
- glycerin;
- acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer;
- disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid;
- triethanolamine;
- polydimethylsiloxane;
- polymethyl methylacrylate;
- glyceryl stearate;
- pentylene glycol;
- ethylhexyl isononanoate;
- cetyl alcohol;
- butyrosperum parkii butter;
- Zea mays germ oil;
- cetyl phosphate;
- cetearyl alcohol;
- and
- ceteareth-33.
