Battery with a voltage regulation device

A voltage regulation device configured to be housed within a housing of a battery, the battery having an external surface which is substantially defined by a housing, a positive terminal, and a negative terminal, the battery having a power source, and an output voltage and output current between the positive and negative terminal, the voltage regulation being configured to regulate at least the output voltage of the battery at a programmed variable level, the voltage regulation device comprising:

• electronic components that are operatively connected to each other to regulate the output voltage to the programmed variable level;
• a current sensing circuit that is adapted to sense the output current or a current of the in a power source of the battery;
• a controller that is operatively connected to one or more of the electronic components of the voltage regulation device, wherein the controller is configured to control the programmed variable level of the output voltage dependent on the current sensed by the current sensing circuit.
