Abstract
Various systems and methods for authentication and authorization in a wearable ensemble are described herein. A system for authenticating a wearable device includes an access module to access a second wearable device from a first wearable device, the first and second wearable devices being worn by a wearer and the first wearable device being a trusted device to the wearer, a measurement module to measure a distance from the first wearable device to the second wearable device, and an authentication module to authenticate the second wearable device when the distance is within a threshold range of an initialized distance.
Claims20
A first computing device, comprising:
- a storage device to store instructions;
- and
- processing circuitry configured to execute the stored instructions to:
- measure a round-trip time from a first time of wirelessly transmitting first data to a second computing device until a second time of wirelessly receiving second data from the second computing device, the second data communicated in response to the first data;
- determine based on the round-trip time measured between the first time and the second time, a value corresponding to a distance from the first computing device to the second computing device;
- perform a verification that the first computing device and the second computing device are worn by a same user;
- and
- in response to the verification, authenticate the second computing device for communication with the first computing device when the distance is within a threshold distance.
A method for authenticating a computing device, the method comprising:
- wirelessly transmitting first data from a first computing device to a second computing device;
- measuring a round-trip time from the transmitting of the first data until wirelessly receiving second data from the second computing device, the second data communicated in response to the first data;
- determining based on the measured round-trip time, a value corresponding to a first distance from the first computing device to the second computing device;
- perform a verification that the first computing device and the second computing device are worn by a same user;
- and
- in response to the verification, authenticating the second computing device for communication with the first computing device when the first distance is within a threshold distance.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium that stores instructions for execution by one or more processors of a first computing device, the instructions to configure the one or more processors to cause the first computing device to:
- measure a round-trip time from wirelessly transmitting first data to a second computing device until wirelessly receiving second data from the second computing device, the second data communicated in response to the first data;
- determine based on the measured round-trip time, a value corresponding to a distance from the first computing device to the second computing device;
- perform a verification that the first computing device and the second computing device are worn by a same user;
- and
- in response to the verification, authenticate the second computing device for communication with the first computing device when the distance is within a threshold distance.
