Abstract
A system, article, and method of video coding using an image data correction mask.
Claims24
A computer-implemented method of video coding comprising:
- receiving color pixel data of at least one image of a video sequence;
- identifying, on the at least one image, at least one region that has only two uniform colors including a first area of one uniform color adjacent a second area of a uniform color;
- forming a mask comprising mask image data at least comprising a map indicating which of the first and second areas at least some pixels of the image belong;
- and
- placing the mask in a bitstream to transmit the mask to a receiver to have the color of at least some of the pixels of the first area or second area or both on a decompressed version of the image at the receiver modified by using the map to determine the correct color for the pixels to display the decompressed image with the pixels with corrected colors;
- and
- wherein the mask is arranged to change the color values of pixels of the decompressed version of the image without first determining whether or not the color values of the pixels of the decompressed version of the image meet a criteria to avoid the change.

A computer-implemented method of video coding comprising:
- receiving a mask in a bitstream with mask image data at least comprising a map indicating at least one region of an image of a video sequence has only two uniform colors and indicating whether pixels of the image belong in a first area of a uniform color in the image or a second area of a uniform color in the image and adjacent the first area in order to correct color values of pixels in the first area or second area or both on a decompressed version of the image;
- aligning the map with the first area or second area or both;
- changing the color values of at least some pixels in the first area or the second area or both by using correction color values associated with the first or second areas;
- and
- displaying the first and second areas on the image on a display including the pixels with the changed color values;
- and
- changing the color values of pixels of the decompressed version of the image without first determining whether or not the color values of the pixels of the decompressed version of the image meet a criteria to avoid the change.

A computer-implemented system comprising:
- at least one display;
- at least one memory to store color pixel data of at least one image of a video sequence;
- at least one processor communicatively coupled to the at least one of the memory and display;
- and
- a correction mask unit operated by the at least one processor and to:
- identify, on the at least one image, at least one region that has only two uniform colors each formed from multiple pixels and including a first area of one uniform color adjacent a second area of a uniform color;
- form a mask comprising mask image data at least comprising a map indicating which of the first and second areas at least some pixels of the image belong;
- and
- have the mask placed in a bitstream to transmit the mask to a receiver to have the color of at least some of the pixels of the first area or second area or both on a decompressed version of the image at the receiver modified by using the map to determine the correct color for the pixels to display the decompressed image with the pixels with corrected colors;
- and
- wherein the mask is arranged to change the color values of pixels of the decompressed version of the image without first determining whether or not the color values of the pixels of the decompressed version of the image meet a criteria to avoid the change.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions that when executed cause a computing device to:
- receive a mask in a bitstream with mask image data at least comprising a map indicating at least one region of an image of a video sequence has only two uniform colors and indicating whether pixels of the image belong in a first area of a uniform color in the image or a second area of a uniform color in the image and adjacent the first area and in order to correct color values of pixels in the first area or second area or both on a decompressed version of the image;
- align the map with the first area or second area or both;
- change the color values of at least some pixels in the first area or the second area or both by using correction color values associated with the first or second areas;
- display the first and second areas on the image on a display including the pixels with the changed color values;
- and
- change the color values of pixels of the decompressed version of the image without first determining whether or not the color values of the pixels of the decompressed version of the image meet a criteria to avoid the change.
