System and method for supporting selective backtracking data recording

A data processing apparatus, comprising:

• one or more microprocessors;
• at least one memory storing instructions for execution by the one or more microprocessors in the data processing apparatus;
• and
• a data processor, running on the one or more microprocessors, configured to execute the instructions to perform operations comprising:
• receiving data associated with a time sequence from one or more data sources associated with one or more data capturing devices;
• storing in a memory the received data;
• removing a portion of the data stored in the memory after receiving a synchronization signal;
• and
• forwarding the removed data to a storage, in response to a control signal, for a time period in the time sequence, wherein the time period includes a past portion which equals a maximum image frame number divided by an image speed and a current portion comprising a difference between the time period and the past portion.
