Evaluation device, evaluation method, and camera system

An evaluation method comprising:

• calculating, by circuitry of an evaluation device, a luminance evaluation value by processing a high dynamic range video signal;
• and
• displaying, by the circuitry, the calculated luminance evaluation value on a display unit, wherein
• wherein the processing the high dynamic range video signal includes
• (i) calculating the luminance evaluation value before the high dynamic range video signal is subjected to gradation compression processing,
• (ii) calculating an average value of luminance for an entire screen as the luminance evaluation value based on a ratio obtained by setting a code value corresponding to luminance of 100% as a reference value,
• (iii) calculating an average value of luminance for an area of a first luminance level or higher as the ratio obtained by setting the code value corresponding to luminance of 100% as the reference value, or
• (iv) calculating a product value of a proportion of an area of a second luminance level or higher in the entire screen and an average value of luminance for the area of the second luminance level or higher in the entire screen as the luminance evaluation value.

A camera system comprising:

• imaging sensor configured to generate a linear high dynamic range video signal;
• and
• circuitry configured to
• calculate a luminance evaluation value by processing a high dynamic range video signal, the high dynamic range video signal being the linear high dynamic range video signal obtained by the imaging sensor and/or obtained by applying gradation compression processing to the linear high dynamic range video signal, and
• display the calculated luminance evaluation value on a display unit wherein, in the processing of the high dynamic range video signal to calculate the luminance evaluation value, the circuitry is configured to
• (i) calculate the luminance evaluation value before the high dynamic range video signal is subjected to the gradation compression processing,
• (ii) calculate an average value of luminance for an entire screen as the luminance evaluation value based on a ratio obtained by setting a code value corresponding to luminance of 100% as a reference value,
• (iii) calculate an average value of luminance for an area of a first luminance level or higher as the ratio obtained by setting the code value corresponding to luminance of 100% as the reference value, or
• (iv) calculate a product value of a proportion of an area of a second luminance level or higher in the entire screen and an average value of luminance for the area of the second luminance level or higher in the entire screen as the luminance evaluation value.
