Abstract
The present disclosure is directed toward systems and methods for facilitating anonymous communications between a user and a merchant via a social networking system, wherein the user's identifying information is obfuscated from the merchant.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- receiving, by a social networking system server and from a client computing device associated with a user, a communication request by way of a social networking system plugin on a webpage associated with a merchant;
- generating, in response to the received communication request, an opaque token associated with the user by creating a hash based on an identifier associated with the merchant and an identifier associated with the user;
- providing, by the social networking system server, the generated opaque token to a third-party server associated with the merchant;
- and
- providing, to the merchant within a social networking system communication interface and using the opaque token, an electronic messaging communication thread between the merchant and the user where an identity of the user is anonymous to the merchant within the electronic messaging communication thread.

A social networking system server comprising:
- at least one processor;
- and
- at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions thereon that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the social networking system server to:
- receive, from a client computing device associated with a user, a communication request by way of a social networking system plugin on a webpage associated with a merchant;
- generate, in response to the received communication request, an opaque token associated with the user by creating a hash based on an identifier associated with the merchant and an identifier associated with the user;
- provide the generated opaque token to a third-party server associated with the merchant;
- and
- provide, to the merchant within a social networking system communication interface and using the opaque token, an electronic messaging communication thread between the merchant and the user based on the opaque token where an identity of the user is anonymous to the merchant within the electronic messaging communication thread.

A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions thereon that, when executed by at least one processor, cause a social networking system server to:
- receive, from a client computing device associated with a user, a communication request by way of a social networking system plugin on a webpage associated with a merchant;
- generate, in response to the received communication request, an opaque token associated with the user by creating a hash based on an identifier associated with the merchant and an identifier associated with the user;
- provide the generated opaque token to a third-party server associated with the merchant;
- and
- provide, to the merchant within a social networking system communication interface and using the opaque token, an electronic messaging communication thread between the merchant and the user based on the opaque token where an identity of the user is anonymous to the merchant within the electronic messaging communication thread.
