Methods and systems for streaming non-process event data to computing devices

A process control system of a process plant, the process control system comprising:

• one or more networks;
• an external interface server communicatively coupled to the one or more networks, the external interface server configured to identify non-process event data values based on non-process events received from one or more non-process event data sources;
• a controller communicatively coupled to the one or more networks and a field device in the process plant, the controller configured to:
• generate one or more alarms or alerts corresponding to the non-process event data values identified by the external interface server;
• and
• subsequently generate, based on the one or more alarms or alerts, a command signal for controlling the field device;
• and
• an operator device communicatively coupled to the one or more networks, the operator device configured to display the one or more alarms or alerts or the corresponding non-process event data values in accordance with a display object governing a manner in which the one or more alarms or alerts or the corresponding non-process event data values are to be displayed on an operator interface of the operator device.
