Abstract
An impeller for a pump is disclosed herein. The impeller can include a hub having a fixed end and a free end. The impeller can also have a plurality of blades supported by the hub. Each blade can have a fixed end coupled to the hub and a free end. The impeller can have a stored configuration and a deployed configuration, the blades in the deployed configuration extending away from the hub, and the blades in the stored configuration being compressed against the hub.
Claims19
An impeller for a catheter pump, the impeller comprising:
- a hub having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion;
- a first row of blades extending from the proximal portion of the hub, the first row of blades comprising a first plurality of circumferentially-spaced blades, wherein each blade of the first row of blades has a blade first proximal end and a blade first distal end, and wherein the hub comprises a first diameter at the blade first distal end and a second diameter at the blade first proximal end that is larger than the first diameter;
- a second row of blades extending from the distal portion of the hub, the second row of blades comprising a second plurality of circumferentially-spaced blades, wherein the first plurality of blades is circumferentially offset with respect to the second plurality of blades about a surface of the hub.
A catheter pump comprising:
- a catheter;
- and
- an impeller mounted at an end of the catheter, the impeller comprising:
- a hub having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion;
- and
- a first row of blades extending from the proximal portion of the hub, the first row of blades comprising a first plurality of circumferentially-spaced blades, wherein each blade of the first row of blades has a blade first proximal end and a blade first distal end, and wherein the hub comprises a first diameter at the blade first distal end and a second diameter at the blade first proximal end that is larger than the first diameter;
- a second row of blades extending from the distal portion of the hub, the second row of blades comprising a second plurality of circumferentially-spaced blades, wherein the first plurality of blades is circumferentially offset with respect to the second plurality of blades about a surface of the hub.
A method of storing an impeller within a sheath for a catheter pump, the method comprising:
- providing a hub having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, the hub supporting at least a first row of blades and a second row of blades, wherein each of the first row of blades and the second row of blades comprises a plurality of blades, wherein the blades of the first row are circumferentially offset with respect to the blades of the second row about a surface of the hub, wherein each blade of the first row of blades has a blade first proximal end and a blade first distal end, and wherein the hub comprises a first diameter at the blade first distal end and a second diameter at the blade first proximal end that is larger than the first diameter;
- inserting the hub into the sheath;
- and
- collapsing the first row of blades and the second row of blades into a stored configuration such that the plurality of blades do not overlap when in a stored configuration.
