Abstract
Systems and methods for automatically associating content characteristics to a third-party content are provided. A uniform resource locator identifying a resource is received from a content provider. The content is rendered to produce an object tree. A first node of the object tree is determined, where the first node represents a content slot. A second node of the object tree proximate to the first node is identified. The second node has a content characteristic, which is extracted. The extracted content characteristic is associated with the first node and stored.
Claims19
A computerized method for automatically creating a content modification scheme for content, the method comprising:
- receiving a uniform resource locator (URL) from a content provider, the URL identifying a resource;
- determining an object tree based on the resource;
- determining a first node of the object tree representing a content slot;
- identifying a second node of the object tree and a content characteristic of the second node, comprising:
- calculating a distance between the first node and each of a plurality of nodes and determining based on the distance that each of the plurality of nodes is within a predetermined distance from the first node;
- determining a number equal to a minimum number of nodes required to be a majority of the plurality of nodes;
- identifying the second node from the majority of the plurality of nodes;
- and;
- extracting the content characteristic from the second node;
- and
- modifying a content item to be rendered in the content slot responsive to associating the content characteristic of the second node with the first node of the object tree.
An apparatus for automatically creating a content modification scheme for content, the apparatus comprising a processor and a memory element, the memory element comprising:
- a receiver module comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, accept a URL from a content provider, the URL identifying a resource;
- a renderer module comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, produce an object tree associated with the resource;
- a first node identifier module comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, access the object tree produced by the renderer module, the first node identifier module structured to determine a first node of the object tree representing a content slot;
- a node distance calculator in communication with the first node identifier module, the node distance calculator comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, calculate a distance between the first node and a second node in the object tree;
- a second node identifier module in communication with the first node identifier module, the second node identifier module comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, determine the second node of the object tree based on determining whether the distance is within a predetermined distance, comprising:
- and determine a content characteristic of the second node;
- a node counter module comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, determine a number equal to a minimum number of nodes required to be a majority of a plurality of second nodes;
- a content characteristic analyzer, comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, identifies a content characteristic associated with at least the number of nodes;
- and
- an extractor engine in communication with the second node identifier module, the extractor engine comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, extract content characteristics of the second node;
- a linker in communication with the extractor engine and the first node identifier module, the linker comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, associate the content characteristic with the first node of the object tree;
- and
- a data manager in communication with the linker and the memory element, the data manager comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, store a modification of the object tree comprising the association of the content characteristic with the first node and the content characteristic in a data structure maintained in the memory element.
