Uninterruptible power supply communication

A method for controlling an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), the method comprising:

• receiving commands at the UPS, from an external entity;
• detecting a position of a switch, the switch having a first position corresponding to a filtering mode and a second position corresponding to a non-filtering mode;
• identifying, responsive to detecting the position of the switch, that the received commands are disallowed commands;
• and
• responsive to identifying the disallowed commands, ignoring the disallowed commands without executing the disallowed commands.

An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) comprising:

• an input configured to receive input power;
• a backup input configured to receive backup power from a backup power source;
• an output configured to provide output power from at least one of the input power and the backup power;
• a switch;
• and
• a controller coupled to the input, the backup input, the switch, and the output, the controller configured to:
• receive commands from an external entity;
• detect a position of the switch;
• identify, responsive to detection of the position of the switch, that the commands are disallowed commands;
• and
• responsive to identifying the disallowed commands, ignore the disallowed commands without executing the disallowed commands.
