Fast cycle gas phase simulated moving bed apparatus and process

An adsorbent bed system for use in swing adsorption processes comprising:

• a rotary valve assembly comprising
• a feed stator having at least two annular tracks, each of the annular tracks having at least one opening to permit gas to flow there through;
• a feed rotor being connected to the feed stator, the feed rotor having at least two annular tracks, each of the annular tracks having an opening to permit gas to flow there through;
• product rotor having at least two annular tracks, each of the annular tracks having an opening to permit gas to flow there through;
• and
• a product stator having at least two annular tracks, each of the annular tracks having an opening to permit gas to flow there through;
• a first adsorbent bed of material capable of selectively removing a target gas from a gaseous mixture, which adsorbent bed is substantially cylindrical shape;
• and
• a second adsorbent bed of material capable of selectively removing a target gas from a gaseous mixture, which second adsorbent bed has a substantially annular shape and being disposed about the first adsorbent bed of material and has a different face cross-sectional area than the face cross-sectional area of the first adsorbent bed;
• the first and second adsorbent beds being in fluid communication with the feed rotor, product rotor, and each other.
