Abstract
A basketball performance monitoring system sensor comprising a sensor housing coupled to a basketball goal proximate a net. The housing has a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The housing includes an arm proximate the second end and is configured extendable inside the net. A U-shaped appendage is located between the first end and the second end. The U-shaped appendage is configured to couple to the net; wherein the sensor is configured to sense a ball impact vibration and/or an angular orientation responsive to a basketball passing over the arm.
Claims18
A basketball performance monitoring system sensor comprising:
- a sensor housing coupled to a net of a basketball goal below a rim of the basketball goal, said housing having a first end and a second end opposite said first end;
- said housing including an arm proximate said second end and configured extendable inside said net, wherein said arm comprises a pair of insertion sides and a pair of removal sides adjacent said insertion sides, said pair of insertion sides and said pair of removal sides located between an arm tip and an arm base opposite said arm tip, said arm tip being proximate said second end of said housing, wherein said pair of insertion sides are positively angled towards said arm tip and said pair of removal sides are negatively angled away from said arm tip;
- a U-shaped appendage located between said first end and said second end, said U-shaped appendage configured to couple to said net, said U-shaped appendage includes a depth configured to trap strings of said net;
- wherein said sensor is configured to sense an angular orientation responsive to a basketball passing over said arm.
A basketball performance monitoring system comprising:
- at least one sensor proximate a basketball goal, said basketball goal having a backboard and a rim coupled to said backboard;
- wherein said sensor comprises a sensor housing coupled to a net of said basketball goal below a rim of the basketball goal, said housing having a first end and a second end opposite said first end wherein said at least one sensor comprises a goal detection sensor, said goal detection sensor comprising a modality of at least one of a vibration, a strain, an acceleration, an angle, a tilt, an optical, a video, an acoustic or electromagnetic;
- and wherein said at least one sensor comprises a ball impact sensor within said housing configured to determine whether a shot has been executed that touches either the rim or backboard;
- said housing including an arm proximate said second end configured extendable inside said net and a counterweighted portion outside said net, wherein said arm comprises a pair of insertion sides and a pair of removal sides adjacent said insertion sides, said pair of insertion sides and said pair of removal sides located between an arm tip and an arm base opposite said arm tip, said arm tip being proximate said second end of said housing, wherein said pair of insertion sides are positively angled towards said arm tip and said pair of removal sides are negatively angled away from said arm tip;
- a U-shaped appendage located between said first end and said second end, said U-shaped appendage configured to couple to said net;
- said at least one sensor configured to determine shot information comprising said shot passing through the rim;
- a local microprocessor coupled to said at least one sensor;
- a remote computational system in communication with said local microprocessor, wherein said local microprocessor transmits said shot information from said at least one of sensor to at least one of said remote computational system and a display;
- a latch coupled to said housing proximate said U-shaped appendage, said latch configured movable and configured to couple to said net in cooperation with said U-shaped appendage, said latch configured to decouple from said net in cooperation with said U-shaped appendage;
- wherein said latch comprises a latch arm having a lower portion and an upper portion opposite said lower portion;
- a pivot coupled to said latch arm proximate said lower portion, said pivot coupled to said housing in a rotary fashion, a coupler formed at said upper portion, said coupler configured to trap said net against said U-shaped appendage, said coupler configured to release said net from said U-shaped appendage;
- and
- an installation rod configured to interact with both the housing to secure said housing to said net and said latch to activate the opening and closing of said latch.
A method for installing and removing a basketball performance monitoring system sensor to a net of a basketball goal comprising:
- coupling an installation rod to a housing of said sensor;
- a U-shaped appendage configured to couple to said net;
- wherein said sensor is configured to sense at least one of a vibration and an angular orientation responsive to a basketball interacting with a rim, a backboard or passing through said net;
- a latch coupled to said housing proximate said U-shaped appendage, said latch configured to couple to said net in cooperation with said U-shaped appendage, said latch configured to decouple from said net in cooperation with said U-shaped appendage;
- said housing including an arm proximate said second end and configured extendable inside said net, wherein said arm comprises a pair of insertion sides and a pair of removal sides adjacent said insertion sides, said pair of insertion sides and said pair of removal sides located between an arm tip and an arm base opposite said arm tip, said arm tip being proximate said second end of said housing, wherein said pair of insertion sides are positively angled towards said arm tip and said pair of removal sides are negatively angled away from said arm tip;
- attaching said housing to said net;
- and
- detaching said housing from said net.
A basketball performance monitoring system sensor comprising:
- a sensor housing coupled to a net of a basketball goal below a rim of the basketball goal, said housing having a first end and a second end opposite said first end;
- said housing including an arm proximate said second end and configured extendable inside said net;
- said housing including an arm proximate said second end and configured extendable inside said net, wherein said arm comprises a pair of insertion sides and a pair of removal sides adjacent said insertion sides, said pair of insertion sides and said pair of removal sides located between an arm tip and an arm base opposite said arm tip, said arm tip being proximate said second end of said housing, wherein said pair of insertion sides are positively angled towards said arm tip and said pair of removal sides are negatively angled away from said arm tip;
- a latch coupled to said housing, said latch configured movable and configured to couple to said net, said latch configured to decouple from said net;
- said latch comprises a latch arm having a lower portion and an upper portion opposite said lower portion;
- a pivot coupled to said latch arm proximate said lower portion, said pivot coupled to said housing in a rotary fashion, a coupler formed at said upper portion, said coupler configured to trap said net and to release said net;
