Abstract
A laser device having a proximal end and a distal end spaced from the proximal end, the distal end configured to receive a fixation member to be affixed to a target surgical site. The laser device includes a laser source supported by the laser device body and capable of emitting a laser beam to the distal end, wherein the laser source is responsive to at least one input so as to selectively switch between an inactive configuration whereby the laser source does not emit the laser beam, and an active configuration whereby the laser source emits the laser beam.
Claims18
A cartridge of a laser device that affixes a fixation member to a target surgical site, the cartridge comprising:
- a cartridge body configured to be removably supported by a laser device body of the laser device;
- and
- a laser source, a power source, and electronic circuitry, each supported by the cartridge body, the electronic circuitry configured to selectively provide an electrical connection between the laser source and the power source,
- wherein the electronic circuitry defines an open circuit when the electronic circuitry is connected to first and second terminals of the power source and the cartridge is separated from the laser device body so as to prevent the power source from supplying power to the laser source, and the open circuit is configured to be closed when the cartridge is supported by the laser device body so as to permit the power source to supply power to the laser source.
A cartridge of a laser device that affixes a fixation member to a target surgical site, the cartridge comprising:
- a cartridge body configured to be removably supported by a body of the laser device;
- and
- a laser source, a power source, and electronic circuitry, each supported by the cartridge body, the electronic circuitry configured to selectively provide an electrical connection between the laser source and the power source,
- wherein the electronic circuitry defines an open circuit when the cartridge is separated from the laser device body so as to prevent the power source from supplying power to the laser source, and the open circuit is configured to be closed when the cartridge is supported by the laser device body so as to permit the power source to supply power to the laser source,
- wherein the cartridge body is configured to be received in a housing of the laser device body, and
- wherein the cartridge body has first and second ends, the first end spaced from the second end along a distal direction and configured to emit a laser beam, and the second end including a spring configured to bias the cartridge in the distal direction when the cartridge is received in the housing of the laser device body.
A laser device comprising:
- a cartridge of a laser device that affixes a fixation member to a target surgical site, the cartridge comprising:
- a cartridge body configured to be removably supported by a body of the laser device;
- and
- a laser source, a power source, and electronic circuitry, each supported by the cartridge body, the electronic circuitry configured to selectively provide an electrical connection between the laser source and the power source, wherein the electronic circuitry defines an open circuit when the cartridge is separated from the laser device body so as to prevent the power source from supplying power to the laser source, and the open circuit is configured to be closed when the cartridge is supported by the laser device body so as to permit the power source to supply power to the laser source;
- and
- the laser device body configured to support the cartridge body, the laser device body having a proximal end, and a distal end spaced apart from the proximal end, the distal end configured to receive the fixation member.
