Abstract
A method for providing user access to a network switch appliance, includes: receiving from a user a request to access configuration item for the network switch appliance, the network switch appliance configured to pass packets received from a network to network monitoring instruments; and determining, using a processing unit, whether to allow the user to access the configuration item for the network switch appliance based on information regarding the user.
Claims20
A network appliance comprising:
- a plurality of ports through which to communicate data with devices external to the network appliance;
- and
- a processor configured to access data indicative of a plurality of sets of access levels, the plurality of sets of access levels including a distinct set of access levels for each port of the plurality of ports, each set of access levels being indicative of an allowed level of access, by one or more users, to a configuration item of the network appliance, the processor further configured to control access according to the plurality of sets of access levels.
A method comprising:
- accessing, by a processor, data indicative of a plurality of sets of access levels associated with a network appliance, the plurality of sets of access levels including a distinct set of access levels for each port of a plurality of ports of the network appliance, each set of access levels being indicative of an allowed level of access, by one or more users, to a configuration item of the network appliance;
- and
- controlling access, by the processor, according to the plurality of sets of access levels.
