System and method for configuring communication devices

A method for configuring communication devices within a communication system, wherein the communication devices include a first communication device and a second communication device, the method being implemented by one or more physical processors that are configured to execute computer-readable instructions to perform the method, the method comprising:

• sending, over a secondary communication link, from the second communication device to the first communication device, a communication;
• receiving, over the secondary communication link, from the first communication device, information in response to the sent communication;
• determining a desired set of configuration settings for communication over a primary communication link between the first communication device and the second communication device, wherein the desired set of configuration settings is based on the received information;
• transmitting, from the second communication device to the first communication device, over the secondary communication link, information representing the desired set of configuration settings for the first communication device;
• and
• causing the first communication device to facilitate communication over the primary communication link in accordance with the transmitted information.

A communication system, including one or more end units and a base station, the communication system comprising:

• a first communication device configured to communicate over a first primary communication link and over a first secondary communication link different from the first primary communication link, wherein the first communication device is a first end unit;
• a second communication device configured to communicate over a second primary communication link, a second secondary communication link, and over a third primary communication link;
• and
• a third communication device configured to communicate with the first communication device over the first secondary communication link, and with the second communication device over the second secondary communication link and over the third primary communication link, wherein the third communication device is the base station, wherein the third communication device is further configured to:
• communicate with the first communication device over the first secondary communication link;
• communicate with the second communication device over the second secondary communication link;
• receive first information from the first communication device, in response to communication over the first secondary communication link;
• receive second information from the second communication device, in response to communication over the second secondary communication link;
• determine a first desired set of configuration settings for first communication between the first communication device and the second communication device, wherein the first communication uses the first primary communication link of the first communication device and the second primary communication link of the second communication device;
• determine a second desired set of configuration settings for second communication between the second communication device and the third communication device, wherein the second communication uses the third primary communication link of the second communication device;
• transmit, over the first secondary communication link, first configuration information representing the first desired set of configuration settings from the third communication device to the first communication device, causing the first communication device to facilitate communication with the second communication device in accordance with the first configuration information, using the first primary communication link of the first communication device and the second primary communication link of the second communication device;
• and
• transmit, over the second secondary communication link, second configuration information representing the second desired set of configuration settings from the third communication device to the second communication device, causing the second communication device to facilitate communication with the third communication device in accordance with the second configuration information, using the third primary communication link of the second communication device.
