Determining routing of proxy traffic between mobile client and proxy devices

A method of using a host device to connect a client device with a network device accessible to the host device, the method comprising:

• at the host device comprising a first wireless communication circuit, a second wireless communication circuit that includes a proxy router, and a host processor communicatively coupled to the first wireless communication circuit and the second wireless communication circuit, wherein the host device is configured to communicate with the network device via a wide area network (WAN) using the first wireless communication circuit or via a local area network (LAN) using the second wireless communication circuit, and the first wireless communication circuit and the second wireless communication circuit are communicatively coupled with each other:
• receiving, via the second wireless communication circuit, an advertisement message from the client device, the advertisement message including a request for communication of data with the network device;
• identifying at least one of a communication policy preference of the host device or a network connection property of the host device;
• determining, by the proxy router, and bypassing the host processor, which wireless communication circuit between the first wireless communication circuit and the second wireless communication circuit to use to communicate the data with the network device as requested by the client device, wherein the determining is based at least on the identified communication policy preference of the host device or the network connection property of the host device;
• based on the determination, selecting, by the proxy router, and bypassing the host processor, a wireless communication circuit between the first wireless communication circuit and the second wireless communication circuit for use by the host device to communicate the data with the network device;
• providing, via the second wireless communication circuit, a connection request to the client device;
• and
• transferring, via the selected wireless communication circuit of the host device, and bypassing the host processor, the data between the client device and the network device, wherein when the selected wireless communication circuit is the first wireless communication circuit, the data is transferred between the host device and the network device via the first wireless communication circuit, and between the host device and the client device via the second wireless communication circuit, with the data transferred between the first wireless communication circuit and the second wireless communication circuit;
• wherein the host device comprises a mobile phone including a display, a user interface, and one or more applications installed on the mobile phone, wherein the host processor is configured to execute the one or more applications, and wherein the display is configured to present visual output associated with execution of the one or more applications.
