Abstract
Systems and methods to aid a welder or welding student. A system may provide a real-world arc welding system or a virtual reality arc welding system along with a computerized eyewear device having a head-up display (HUD). The computerized eyewear device may be worn by a user under a conventional welding helmet as eye glasses are worn and may wirelessly communicate with a welding power source of a real-world arc welding system or a programmable processor-based subsystem of a virtual reality arc welding system.
Claims19
A computerized eyewear device, comprising:
- a frame that is configured to be worn by a user;
- an optical lens attached to the frame;
- a control and communication circuitry that includes a processor and memory in which the control and communication circuitry are configured to wirelessly communicate with a wireless communication circuit of a welding power source to receive a portion of information corresponding to a welding parameter of the welding power source, wherein the portion of information comprises a location of a next weld corresponding to a next step of a sequence of welding steps, and the welding power source is configured to create an electric arc between a welding wire and a workpiece to create a weld;
- and
- a head up display that is configured to display the location of the next weld as an indicator on the head up display such that the indicator is positioned to overlay the location of the next weld on the workpiece as viewed by the user through the head up display.
A computerized eyewear device that is configured to be worn by a user, comprising:
- a bridge;
- a first arm;
- a second arm;
- a frame;
- an optical lens attached to a portion of the frame;
- means for wirelessly communicating with a wireless communication circuit of a welding power source to receive a portion of information corresponding to a virtual reality welding system, wherein the portion of information comprises a location of a next weld corresponding to a next step of a sequence of welding steps, and the virtual reality welding system is configured to simulate the creation of a weld puddle on a virtual workpiece having real-time molten metal fluidity and heat dissipation characteristics;
- a head up display that is configured to display the location of the next weld as an indicator on the head up display such that the indicator is positioned to overlay the location of the next weld on the virtual workpiece as viewed by the user through the head up display;
- a touch-sensitive user interface that is configured to receive a command from a user and the touch-sensitive user interface is operatively connected to the control and communication circuitry;
- and
- a camera coupled to a portion of the frame, wherein the camera is configured to capture at least one of an image or a portion of video related to the virtual reality welding system.
A computerized eyewear device that is configured to communicate with a welding system, comprising:
- a transparent display that is configured to present information related to the welding system;
- a microphone configured to receive a voice command;
- a processor;
- and
- a memory storing computer-executable instructions to wirelessly communicate with a wireless communication circuit of a welding power source of the welding system, the computer-executable instructions, when executed by the processor, configure the computerized eyewear device to:
- receive the voice command from the microphone;
- wirelessly communicate the voice command to the welding system;
- receive information from the welding system, wherein the information comprises a location of a next weld corresponding to a next step of a sequence of welding steps to be performed on a workpiece;
- and
- display the location of the next weld, in response to the voice command, as an indicator on the transparent display such that the indicator is positioned to overlay the location of the next weld on the workpiece as viewed by the user through the transparent display.
