Determining directions for users within a venue to meet in the venue

A computer program product having instructions encoded thereon that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:

• receive information at an online system associated with a venue from a client device associated with a user of the online system, the venue comprising a geographic location associated with one or more structures and the information identifying an additional user selected from information maintained by the client device and a physical location of a meeting point within a threshold distance of a physical location of the venue;
• determine that the online system maintains a user profile for selected additional user and that an additional client device associated with the selected additional user is executing an application associated with the online system;
• determine that a physical location of the additional client device associated with the selected additional user is within the threshold distance of the physical location of the venue;
• responsive to determining that (1) the online system maintains the user profile for selected additional user, (2) that the application associated with the online system is executing on an additional client device associated with the selected additional user, and (3) that the physical location of the additional client device associated with the selected additional user is within the threshold distance of the physical location of the venue, transmit a request including the physical location of the meeting point from the online system to the additional client device associated with the selected additional user;
• receive, at the online system, an acceptance of the request from the additional client device associated with the selected additional user;
• determine, by the online system, directions from a physical location of the client device associated with the user of the online system obtained by the online system within a threshold amount of time of the online system beginning to determine the directions to the physical location of the meeting point in response to the online system receiving the acceptance of the request from the additional client device associated with the selected additional user;
• and
• transmit an interface to the client device associated with the user of the online system for presentation, the interface including the physical location of the client device associated with the user of the online system and the directions from the physical location of the client device associated with the user of the online system to the physical location of the meeting point.
