Method for creep cancellation in hybrid drivelines

A method for a hybrid vehicle comprising:

• reducing, by a controller, a target speed of a torque converter impeller to create a desired brake torque and partially cancel creep torque without application of friction brakes in response to a brake pedal being pressed while an accelerator pedal is not being pressed.

A system for a vehicle comprising:

• an electric machine configured to generate creep torque;
• and
• at least one controller programmed to decrease a target speed of a torque converter impeller from an impeller idle speed to a minimum speed to create a desired brake torque and partially cancel creep torque without application of friction brakes in response to a brake pedal being pressed by a predetermined distance while an accelerator pedal is not being pressed, wherein a difference between the impeller idle speed and the minimum speed is based on the predetermined distance.
