Printing apparatus and printing method

A printing method which is performed in a printing apparatus including a print head that has a first nozzle group that applies a liquid to a print medium and a second nozzle group that applies a working liquid to the print medium, a main scanning unit that relatively moves the print head with respect to the print medium in a main scanning direction, and a sub-scanning unit that relatively moves the print medium in a sub-scanning direction intersecting the main scanning direction with respect to the print head, the printing method comprising:

• performing control of the print head, the main scanning unit, and the sub-scanning unit, based on attribute information of the print medium, in one of a first mode and a second mode, the attribute information including one of a medium name of the print medium, information on permeation speed at which the liquid and the working liquid permeate the print medium, and information indicating material and configuration of the print medium,
• wherein in the first mode, a use area in which nozzles that are included in the first nozzle group and apply the liquid are arranged and a use area in which nozzles that are included in the second nozzle group and apply the working liquid are arranged do not overlap each other as viewed in the main scanning direction, and
• in the second mode, a use area in which nozzles that are included in the first nozzle group and apply the liquid are arranged and a use area in which nozzles that are included in the second nozzle group and apply the working liquid are arranged at least partially overlap each other as viewed in the main scanning direction.
