Abstract
A device includes a stent scaffold structure supporting a patch on an interior surface thereof. The device may be used to produce a neovalve in a percutaneous minimally invasive manner. Exemplary methods include implanting the device, permitting a growth layer to form over at least a portion of the patch, and separating the patch from the stent scaffold thereby forming a slit or gap in the vessel wall to act as a valve similar to the surgical neovalve.
Claims12
An intraluminal device having an implanted configuration and a modified configuration following the implanted configuration, the intraluminal device comprising:
- a support scaffold designed for implanting into a blood vessel, the support scaffold including a lumen defined by a luminal surface;
- and
- a patch coupled to the support scaffold along a length of the luminal surface in the implanted configuration, the patch covering less than a full circumference along the length, wherein removal of the patch from the lumen of the support scaffold transitions the intraluminal device from the implanted configuration to the modified configuration.
An intraluminal device having an implanted configuration and a modified configuration following the implanted configuration, the intraluminal device comprising:
- a stent including a lumen defined by a luminal surface, the stent comprising a metal material selected from the group consisting of Nitinol, steel, titanium, Cobalt-Nickel alloy, and a metal alloy;
- and
- a patch comprising the metal material, the patch covering a portion of the luminal surface of the stent in the implanted configuration, wherein removing the patch from the lumen of the stent transitions the intraluminal device from the implanted configuration to the modified configuration.
