Pepino mosaic virus resistant tomato plant

A method for developing a Pepino Mosaic Virus resistant tomato plant comprising a combination of QTL1 and QTL2 or QTL2 and QTL3 or QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3,

• said method comprising:
• a) crossing a plant comprising QTL1 and QTL2, grown from seed which was deposited as NCIMB 41927 or NCIMB 42068, or a progeny plant thereof comprising QTL1 and a plant comprising QTL2 and QTL3, grown from seed which was deposited as NCIMB 41928, or a progeny plant thereof comprising QTL2 and QTL3, or a plant comprising QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3 grown from seed of which was deposited as NCIMB 42069, or a progeny plant thereof comprising QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3, with a plant not comprising the combination of QTL1 and QTL2, QTL 2 and QTL3, or QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3 to obtain an F1 population;
• b) performing one or more rounds of selfing and/or backcrossing a plant from the F1 to obtain a further generation population;
• c) optionally selecting a plant from the population that comprises the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 or QTL2 and QTL3, followed by crossing with a plant comprising at least the other QTLs, and subsequently repeating step b);
• and
• d) selecting a plant that comprises the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 or QTL2 and QTL3 or QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3, and has resistance to Pepino Mosaic Virus;
• wherein the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 or QTL2 and QTL3 or QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3, confers resistance to Pepino Mosaic Virus;
• wherein QTL1 is linked to molecular marker characterized by SEQ ID No. 1, SEQ ID No. 4 and SEQ ID No. 5;
• QTL2 is linked to molecular marker characterized by SEQ ID No. 2, SEQ ID No. 6 and SEQ ID No. 7;
• and QTL3 is linked to molecular marker characterized by SEQ ID No. 3, SEQ ID No. 8 and SEQ ID No. 9;
• and
• wherein the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 is as comprised in a tomato plant, representative seed of which were deposited with the NCIMB under deposit numbers NCIMB 41927 and NCIMB 42068, the combination of QTL2 and QTL3 is as comprised in a tomato plant, representative seed of which were deposited with the NCIMB under deposit number NCIMB 41928, and the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3 is as comprised in a tomato plant, representative seed of which were deposited with the NCIMB under deposit number NCIMB 42069.

A method for developing a Pepino Mosaic Virus resistant tomato plant comprising a combination of QTL1 and QTL2 or QTL2 and QTL3 or QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3,

• said method comprising:
• crossing a first parent plant that comprises QTL1 and QTL2 or QTL2 and QTL3 or QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3 with a second parent plant that comprises QTL1 and/or QTL2 and/or QTL3 and
• selecting in subsequent generations, optionally after further selfing and/or backcrossing steps, for a plant that comprises the a combination of QTL1 and QTL2 or QTL2 and QTL3 or QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3;
• wherein the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 or QTL2 and QTL3 or QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3, confers resistance to Pepino Mosaic Virus;
• wherein QTL1 is linked to molecular marker characterized by SEQ ID No. 1, SEQ ID No. 4 and SEQ ID No. 5;
• QTL2 is linked to molecular marker characterized by SEQ ID No. 2, SEQ ID No. 6 and SEQ ID No. 7;
• and QTL3 is linked to molecular marker characterized by SEQ ID No. 3, SEQ ID No. 8 and SEQ ID No. 9;
• wherein the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 is as comprised in a tomato plant, representative seed of which were deposited with the NCIMB under deposit numbers NCIMB 41927 and NCIMB 42068, the combination of QTL2 and QTL3 is as comprised in a tomato plant, representative seed of which were deposited with the NCIMB under deposit number NCIMB 41928, and the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3 is as comprised in a tomato plant, representative seed of which were deposited with the NCIMB under deposit number NCIMB 42069;
• and
• wherein the selected plant has resistance to Pepino Mosaic Virus.

A method of producing a hybrid tomato seed comprising crossing a first parent plant with a second parent plant and harvesting the resultant hybrid seed, wherein the first parent plant and/or the second parent plant comprises a combination of QTL1 and QTL2 or QTL2 and QTL3 or QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3;

• wherein the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 or QTL2 and QTL3 or QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3, confers resistance to Pepino Mosaic Virus;
• wherein QTL1 is linked to molecular marker characterized by SEQ ID No. 1, SEQ ID No. 4 and SEQ ID No. 5;
• QTL2 is linked to molecular marker characterized by SEQ ID No. 2, SEQ ID No. 6 and SEQ ID No. 7;
• and QTL3 is linked to molecular marker characterized by SEQ ID No. 3, SEQ ID No. 8 and SEQ ID No. 9;
• wherein the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 is as comprised in a tomato plant, representative seed of which were deposited with the NCIMB under deposit numbers NCIMB 41927 and NCIMB 42068, the combination of QTL2 and QTL3 is as comprised in a tomato plant, representative seed of which were deposited with the NCIMB under deposit number NCIMB 41928, and the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3 is as comprised in a tomato plant, representative seed of which were deposited with the NCIMB under deposit number NCIMB 42069;
• and
• wherein the plant that is grown from the seed has resistance to Pepino Mosaic Virus.

A method for selecting a tomato plant comprising a Pepino Mosaic Virus resistance conferring QTL comprising:

• performing an assay for measuring the presence of SEQ ID NO:
• 1, SEQ ID NO:
• 4 and SEQ ID NO:
• 5 for identification of presence of QTL1, and/or
• performing an assay for measuring the presence of SEQ ID NO:
• 2, SEQ ID NO:
• 6 and SEQ ID NO:
• 7 for identification of presence of QTL2, and/or performing an assay for measuring the presence of SEQ ID NO:
• 3, SEQ ID NO:
• 8 and SEQ ID NO:
• 9 for identification of presence of QTL3, and
• selecting a tomato plant that comprises any one of QTL1 and QTL2 or QTL2 and QTL3 or QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3 as a tomato plant comprising the Pepino Mosaic Virus resistance conferring QTL;
• wherein the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 or QTL2 and QTL3 or QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3, confers resistance to Pepino Mosaic Virus;
• wherein QTL1 is linked to molecular marker characterized by SEQ ID No. 1, SEQ ID No. 4 and SEQ ID No. 5;
• QTL2 is linked to molecular marker characterized by SEQ ID No. 2, SEQ ID No. 6 and SEQ ID No. 7;
• and QTL3 is linked to molecular marker characterized by SEQ ID No. 3, SEQ ID No. 8 and SEQ ID No. 9;
• and
• wherein the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 is as comprised in a tomato plant, representative seed of which were deposited with the NCIMB under deposit numbers NCIMB 41927 and NCIMB 42068, the combination of QTL2 and QTL3 is as comprised in a tomato plant, representative seed of which were deposited with the NCIMB under deposit number NCIMB 41928, and the combination of QTL1 and QTL2 and QTL3 is as comprised in a tomato plant, representative seed of which were deposited with the NCIMB under deposit number NCIMB 42069.
