Abstract
In one example, an apparatus is provided that includes a processor configured to receive, in a first wireless network, an identifier of a base station in a second wireless network, and to determine an identity of a first device in the second wireless network. The apparatus is configured to transmit the identifier of the base station to the second wireless network.

A computer-implemented method to provide seamless mobility in a network environment by implementing wireless local area network (WLAN) to long-term evolution (LTE) handover, the computer-implemented method comprising:
- receiving, in a first wireless network comprising a WLAN, a first message including an identifier of a base station in a second wireless network comprising an LTE network, wherein the first message is received by a WLAN access gateway and from a user equipment (UE);
- determining, by the WLAN access gateway, an identity of a first device based on at least one of the identifier of the base station, a device location in the WLAN, and database mapping information, wherein the first device is selected from a database server and a default mobility management entity;
- contacting the first device in the LTE network via a first tunnel;
- receiving an identity of a second device in the LTE network, wherein the second device comprises a target mobility management entity;
- establishing a second tunnel with the second device and by operation of one or more computer processors;
- transmitting, using a specified protocol and the second tunnel, the identifier of the base station and a session parameter of the WLAN to the LTE network;
- receiving, using the second tunnel, a first indication whether a handover from the WLAN to the LTE network is accepted;
- and
- transmitting a second indication in the WLAN that the handover is accepted, wherein the first message, the first indication, and the second indication comprise media access control (MAC) frames of a same type and of different subtypes.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium embedded with a computer executable program including instructions executable to perform an operation to provide seamless mobility in a network environment by implementing wireless local area network (WLAN) to long-term evolution (LTE) handover, the operation comprising:
- receiving, in a first wireless network comprising a WLAN, a first message including an identifier of a base station in a second wireless network comprising an LTE network, wherein the first message is received by a WLAN access gateway and from a user equipment (UE);
- determining, by the WLAN access gateway, an identity of a first device based on at least one of the identifier of the base station, a device location in the WLAN, and database mapping information, wherein the first device is selected from a database server and a default mobility management entity;
- contacting the first device in the LTE network via a first tunnel;
- receiving an identity of a second device in the LTE network, wherein the second device comprises a target mobility management entity;
- establishing a second tunnel with the second device and by operation of one or more computer processors when executing the instructions;
- transmitting, using a specified protocol and the second tunnel, the identifier of the base station and a session parameter of the WLAN to the LTE network;
- receiving, using the second tunnel, a first indication whether a handover from the WLAN to the LTE network is accepted;
- and
- transmitting a second indication in the WLAN that the handover is accepted, wherein the first message, the first indication, and the second indication comprise media access control (MAC) frames of a same type and of different subtypes.
An access gateway to provide seamless mobility in a network environment by implementing wireless local area network (WLAN) to long-term evolution (LTE) handover, the access gateway comprising:
- one or more computer processors;
- and
- a memory containing a program executable by the one or more computer processors to perform an operation comprising:
- receiving, in a first wireless network comprising a WLAN, a first message including an identifier of a base station in a second wireless network comprising an LTE network, wherein the first message is received by a WLAN access gateway and from a user equipment (UE);
- determining, by the WLAN access gateway, an identity of a first device based on at least one of the identifier of the base station, a device location in the WLAN, and database mapping information, wherein the first device is selected from a database server and a default mobility management entity;
- contacting the first device in the LTE network via a first tunnel;
- receiving an identity of a second device in the LTE network, wherein the second device comprises a target mobility management entity;
- establishing a second tunnel with the second device;
- transmitting, using a specified protocol and the second tunnel, the identifier of the base station and a session parameter of the WLAN to the LTE network;
- receiving, using the second tunnel, a first indication whether a handover from the WLAN to the LTE network is accepted;
- and
- transmitting a second indication in the WLAN that the handover is accepted, wherein the first message, the first indication, and the second indication comprise media access control (MAC) frames of a same type and of different subtypes.
