Systems and methods for automatically outputting a reply to a message relating to a media asset a user is currently watching when the user's device is on a do-not-disturb mode

A system for, when a message intended to be read by a first user of a first device is received at the first device from a second device of a second user when the first device is programmed to refrain from alerting the first user to the message, alerting the first user to the message if the message relates to a media asset that the first user is viewing at a time when the message is received, the system comprising:

• communications circuitry;
• and
• control circuitry configured to:
• receive, at the first device, using the communications circuitry, the message from the second device;
• in response to receiving the message, determine that the first device is programmed to refrain from alerting the first user to the message;
• in response to determining that the first user device is programmed to refrain from alerting the first user to the message:
• determine whether the first user is viewing the media asset;
• in response to determining that the first user is viewing the media asset:
• extract a keyword from the message;
• retrieve, using the communications circuitry, keywords from a metadata entry in a database, the metadata entry comprising metadata describing the media asset;
• compare the keyword from the message to the keywords from the metadata entry;
• determine, based on the comparing, whether the keyword from the message matches a keyword of the keywords from the metadata entry;
• in response to determining that the keyword from the message matches the keyword of the keywords from the metadata entry, determine that the message relates to the media asset;
• and
• in response to determining that the message relates to the media asset, alert the first user to the message notwithstanding that the first device is programmed to refrain from alerting the first user to the message.
