Rule-based selection of content

An apparatus, comprising:

• a network interface;
• a processor coupled to the network interface;
• and
• a memory accessible to the processor, the memory comprising instructions executable by the processor to perform operations, the operations including:
• receiving electronic program guide data;
• receiving user history data related to use of a media device;
• sending the user history data to a server;
• receiving, from the server, responsive to the sending the user history data to the server, a first rule based on the user history data and program information not included in the electronic program guide data;
• dynamically generating a user interface based on the first rule and a second rule, the second rule generated by the processor based on the user history data and based on the electronic program guide data;
• and
• initiating a transmission of the user interface to the media device.

A computer-readable storage device storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:

• receiving electronic program guide data;
• receiving user history data related to use of a media device;
• sending the user history data to a server;
• receiving, from the server responsive to the sending the user history data to the server, a first rule based on the user history data and program information not included in the electronic program guide data;
• dynamically generating a user interface based on the first rule and a second rule, the second rule generated by the processor based on the user history data and based on the electronic program guide data;
• and
• initiating a transmission of the user interface to the media device.
