Electronic apparatus and method of operating the electronic apparatus

An electronic apparatus, which interfaces with an external apparatus through a data transfer apparatus comprising a plurality of optical fiber lines, and a control circuit to control to enable or disable the plurality of optical fiber lines, the electronic apparatus comprising:

• a power controller configured to transmit a control signal to the control circuit of the data transfer apparatus to control each of the plurality of optical fiber lines;
• a processor configured to control an operation of the power controller;
• and
• a memory configured to store instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
• receive, from the external apparatus, a first optical line control instruction indicating each of the optical fiber lines of the data transfer apparatus to be enabled or disabled, and
• control the power controller to instruct the control circuit of the data transfer apparatus to enable a determined number of the optical fiber lines based on the received first optical line control instruction.

A method for operating an electronic apparatus, which interfaces with an external apparatus through a data transfer apparatus comprising a plurality of optical fiber lines, and a control circuit enabling or disabling one or more of the plurality of optical fiber lines, the method comprising:

• determining a data rate for transferring data between the electronic apparatus and the external apparatus,
• determining a number of the optical fiber lines to be used for transferring the data based on the determined data rate,
• controlling a power controller to instruct the control circuit of the data transfer apparatus to enable the determined number of the optical fiber lines, and
• transmit, to the external apparatus, a first optical line control instruction indicating each of the optical fiber lines of the data transfer device to be enabled or disabled.
