Method and apparatus for horticultural lighting and associated optic systems

A method of producing light, comprising:

• producing a first light distribution having a first beam width;
• modifying the first light distribution into a second light distribution having a second beam width;
• and
• wherein an intensity of the second light distribution is substantially maximized at the second beam width and the intensity of the second light distribution is substantially minimized at a center of the second beam width.

A light fixture, comprising:

• at least one light source configured to produce a first light distribution having a first optical axis and a first beam width;
• at least one refractor disposed in proximity to the at least one light source and configured to modify the first light distribution into a second light distribution having a second optical axis parallel to the first optical axis and a second beam width;
• and
• wherein the at least one refractor is configured to produce the second light distribution with a light intensity that increases from a minimum intensity at a beam angle that is substantially parallel to the second optical axis to a maximum intensity at a beam angle that is substantially equal to the second beam width.
