Variable valve mechanism for engine

A variable valve mechanism mounted on a multi-cylinder engine, the variable valve mechanism comprising:

• a cam unit fitted around a camshaft, the cam unit including two sets of a plurality of cams, one cam of the plurality of cams being selected by sliding the cam unit in an axial direction, two gas exchange valves provided for each cylinder;
• and
• first and second rocker arms, each of the two gas exchange valves configured to be driven by the selected cam of the plurality of cams via a corresponding rocker arm of the first and second rocker arms, wherein
• each rocker arm has a proximal end and a distal end,
• the proximal end is rockably supported by a cylinder head of the engine,
• the distal end is configured to press a stem of a corresponding one of the two gas exchange valves,
• the proximal end of the first rocker arm for each cylinder is offset to a first side in the axial direction of the camshaft with respect to the distal end of the first rocker arm, and
• the proximal end of the second rocker arm for each cylinder is offset to a second side opposite the first side in the axial direction of the camshaft with respect to the distal end of the second rocker arm.
