Abstract
The present invention relates to a new and distinctive canola, designated G1992650A. Also included are seeds of canola G1992650A, to the plants, or plant parts, of canola G1992650A and to methods for producing a canola plant produced by crossing the canola G1992650A with itself or another canola genotype, and the creation of variants by mutagenesis or transformation of canola G1992650A.
Claims20
A seed of canola designated G1992650A, wherein a representative sample of seed of said cultivar was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-122812.
A method of introducing a desired trait into canola G1992650A, wherein the method comprises:
- (a) crossing a G1992650A plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-122812, with a second plant of another canola cultivar that comprises said desired trait to produce F1 progeny plants, wherein said desired trait is selected from the group consisting of herbicide resistance, insect resistance, and resistance to bacterial disease, fungal disease or viral disease;
- (b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have said desired trait to produce selected progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the G1992650A plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have said desired trait and physiological and morphological characteristics of canola G1992650A to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise said desired trait and an oleic acid value of about 70% and an α-linolenic acid value of less than about 3% as a percentage of total fatty acids, comprise all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of canola G1992650A, and further comprise the desired trait.
A method of modifying fatty acid metabolism or modifying carbohydrate metabolism of canola G1992650A wherein the method comprises:
- (a) crossing a G1992650A plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-122812, with a plant of another canola cultivar to produce F1 progeny plants that comprise a nucleic acid molecule encoding an enzyme selected from the group consisting of phytase, fructosyltransferase, levansucrase, alpha-amylase, invertase and starch branching enzyme or encoding an antisense of stearyl-ACP desaturase;
- (b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have said nucleic acid molecule to produce selected progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the G1992650A plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have said nucleic acid molecule and physiological and morphological characteristics of canola G1992650A to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise said nucleic acid molecule and have an oleic acid value of about 70% and an α-linolenic acid value of less than about 3%% as a percentage of total fatty acids, comprise all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of canola G1992650A, and further comprise the desired trait.
