Abstract
A fire retardant composition is disclosed. The composition includes polyvinyl chloride, a plasticizer, a brominated fire retardant additive, a fire retardant synergist, and a metal stabilizer. Cable separators formed of the fire retardant composition are also disclosed.
Claims18
A fire retardant composition comprising:
- polyvinyl chloride;
- about 10 parts to about 40 parts, by weight, of a plasticizer comprising one or more of a trimellitate ester and a phosphate ester;
- about 0.1 part to about 25 parts, by weight, of a brominated fire retardant additive;
- about 25 parts to about 75 parts, by weight, of a fire retardant synergist comprising a metal hydroxide;
- about 1 part to about 10 parts, by weight, of a mixed metal stabilizer;
- and
- wherein the fire retardant composition is substantially free of a halogenated plasticizer.

A fire retardant composition comprising:
- polyvinyl chloride;
- about 10 parts to about 40 parts, by weight, of a plasticizer comprising one or more of a trimellitate ester and a phosphate ester;
- about 0.1 part to about 25 parts, by weight, of a brominated fire retardant additive;
- about 0.1 to about 25 parts, by weight, of a second fire retardant additive comprising antimony trioxide about 25 parts to about 75 parts, by weight, of a fire retardant synergist comprising a metal hydroxide;
- about 1 part to about 10 parts, by weight, of a mixed metal stabilizer;
- and
- wherein the fire retardant composition is substantially free of a halogenated plasticizer.
