In another aspect, the disclosure relates to a method for marketing an article or articles in a line of apparel, such as sporting goods apparel, with such pre-worn pieces affixed to the articles as integral design elements.
Claims17
An apparel article comprising:
- a body portion made of a new and finished apparel article;
- at least one pre-worn piece taken from an indicia-bearing apparel article that was previously worn by an athlete at a sporting event held on a particular date and at a particular place, the at least one pre-worn piece having an outer perimeter and being affixed onto the apparel article so that the entire pre-worn piece covers a portion of the apparel article and is fastened to the apparel article along the outer perimeter of the pre-worn piece;
- and
- a provenance portion located on the finished apparel article and containing an official apparel authentication issued by an official authenticating authority for the particular sport associated with the at least one pre-worn piece and further having a name of the athlete or team, a name of the official authenticating authority for the particular sport associated with the at least one pre-worn piece, and a listing of at least one of the event, date and particular place associated with the at least one pre-worn piece to create an authenticated sports memorabilia item that can be instantaneously identified down to memorabilia details including a specific athlete or team, the authenticating authority, and at least one of the event, date and place associated with the at least one pre-worn piece thereby providing a readily visible provenance portion that not only markets the memorabilia item to the consumer due to the memorabilia details provided thereon, but also allows the consumer to quickly search through a plurality of apparel articles to instantaneously locate a specific item being sought by the consumer and then display the memorabilia details when wearing the specific item.
An apparel article comprising:
- a new and finished apparel article having first and second sleeves and a main body having an upper body section and a lower body section, each of the sleeves and upper and lower body sections constituting its own portion of the new and finished apparel article;
- at least one pre-worn piece attached to a first portion of the new and finished apparel article and taken from a pre-worn apparel article that was previously worn by an athlete at a sporting event;
- and
- a provenance portion attached to another portion of the new and finished apparel article different from the first portion containing the at least one pre-worn piece so as to space the provenance portion from the at least one pre-worn piece in order to not distract from the overall appearance formed by the new and finished apparel article and the at least one pre-worn piece, the provenance portion having a name of an official authenticating authority for the sport associated with the at least one pre-worn piece and a listing of memorabilia details including the event, date and particular place associated with the pre-worn piece such that the memorabilia details are instantaneously visible and identifiable to a viewer of the apparel article, the provenance portion thereby providing the valuable benefit of marketing the apparel article to the consumer due to the memorabilia details provided thereon, and allowing the consumer to quickly search through a plurality of apparel articles to instantaneously locate a specific item being sought by the readily visible memorabilia details and then display the memorabilia details when wearing the specific item.
