Abstract
A dynamic service routing protocol (DSRP) communicates messages (e.g., containing information regarding network routes and tables) across a partial-mesh network of nodes. Gateway nodes (i.e., computing devices that operate as a final sink point for a service route) are connected to edge routers (i.e., computing devices that operate as a transit for a service route) but not necessarily to other host nodes. Gateway nodes asynchronously and/or dynamically send DSRP messages for updating the router nodes' routing tables and to minimize manual route configuration.
Claims21
A computer-implemented method performed in a distinguished network node to route data packets, comprising:
- configuring a plurality of domains,
- wherein each domain is associated with a routing table that is separate from routing tables of other domains of the plurality of domains,
- wherein each domain is associated with a unique domain ID, and
- wherein and distinguished network node is present in at least two of the plurality of domains;
- receiving a data packet of a packet stream from a transit device, wherein the packet is associated with a domain ID;
- determining whether the domain ID associated with the data packet matches any of the unique domain IDs of the plurality of domains;
- identifying a domain from the plurality of domains, wherein the domain is associated with a unique domain ID that matches the domain ID associated with the data packet;
- choosing a routing table among a plurality of routing tables based on the domain ID associated with the data packet;
- and
- routing the data packet based on the chosen routing table associated with the identified domain.
At least one tangible computer-readable device having instructions that when executed by at least one data processing device, provides a routing protocol technology, comprising:
- configuring one or more domains,
- wherein each of the one or more domains has a unique domain ID and is associated with respective routing tables, and
- wherein at least one network node is present in at least two of the plurality of domains;
- receiving a data packet of a packet stream from a transit device, wherein the data packet is associated with a domain ID;
- identifying a domain from the one or more domains, wherein the domain is associated with a unique domain ID that matches the domain ID associated with the data packet;
- choosing a routing table among a plurality of routing tables based on the domain ID associated with the data packet;
- and
- routing the data packet based on the chosen routing table associated with the identified domain.
A computing system for providing a domain -based routing protocol technology, comprising:
- a plurality of domains each associated with a respective routing table,
- wherein each domain is each associated with a respective unique domain ID, and
- where at least one network node is present in at least two of the plurality of domains;
- and
- a distributed service routing software stored in a computer readable memory that is executed on at least one processor to:
- receive, via a network, a data packet of a packet stream, wherein the data packet is associated with a domain ID,
- identify a domain from the plurality of domains, wherein the domain is associated with a unique domain ID matching the domain ID of the data packet,
- choose a routing table among a plurality of routing tables based on the domain ID associated with the data packet;
- and
- send the data packet to a route described in the chosen routing table associated with the identified domain.
A computer system, including at least one processor, for routing data packets, the system comprising a distributed service routing software stored in a computer readable memory that is executed on at least one of the processors to:
- configure a plurality of domains,
- wherein each domain is associated with a routing table that is separate from routing tables of other domains of the plurality of domains,
- wherein each domain is associated with a unique domain ID, and
- wherein at least one network node is present in at least two of the plurality of domains;
- receive a data packet of a packet stream, wherein the packet is associated with a domain ID;
- determine whether the domain ID associated with the data packet matches any of the unique domain IDs of the plurality of domains;
- and
- identify a domain from the plurality of domains, wherein the domain is associated with a unique domain ID that matches the domain ID associated with the data packet;
- choose a routing table among a plurality of routing tables based on the domain ID associated with the data packet;
- and
- route the packet based on the chosen routing table associated with the identified domain.
